The lovely Bombus mastrucatus (formerly named Wurflenii) shot in Sweden last july. Look at the strong jaws of this bee. It often opens the flowers at the top of the corolla stealing nectar without pollination. Beacause of this the scandinavian name is Tyvhumle wich means "stealing bumblebee".

If anyone doubts the profound impact of climate crisis on butterflies, look at the peak flight week of the Silver-studded Blue at Studland NNR. On average it flies 4 weeks earlier than 50 yrs ago, but first few years vs last two, its 8 weeks! Its doing well but other sp aren't @ukbms.bsky.social

Charles Darwin changed how we see our place in nature – but how did he build his theories? 🗺️🌱 We’re currently cataloguing his personal library, full of annotations and notes that chart his transformation from a curious student to influential scientist. Find out more: loom.ly/xeloI8E
A composite image: the background is an aged, yellowed manuscript page filled with handwritten cursive notes in dark ink. In the top left corner is a sepia-toned circular portrait of a young, clean-shaven Charles Darwin. Text overlay reads: "A major new project is underway at Cambridge University Library to create an online catalogue of Darwin's personal library."
