It's been another hot week in #NorthWales for people and wildlife alike! Here's three simple ways you can help wildlife in hot weather: 💧 Provide water. 🌾 Hold off on mowing. 🍎 Leave some fruit. Check out the Alt Text to find out more! #WildlifeGardening #Heatwave
Leave out a pebbly bowl of water, or build a pond with a sloping and stoney edge for insects and birds. This image shows an insect enjoy a much-needed drink from a pebbly pond.Let long grass stand a little longer. It creates shade and keeps the ground level significantly cooler for creepy-crawlies and small mammals. We hope that you're looking after yourself in this warm weather, and lending a hand to wildlife too! Check out our advice for helping wildlife in the heat, from keeping watering stations topped up to providing shade and shelter. 👉 www.northwaleswildlifetrust.org.uk/actions/help-wildlife-hot-weather
A graphic giving advice for helping wildlife in hot weather. Advice on this graphic states:
1. Provide enough water - Leave out a shallow dish of water for thirsty birds, mammals and insects. Placing stones in the dish will give landing spots for insects to have a drink.
2. Top up the bird bath - Birds need to bathe to keep their feathers in good condition. Change the water daily and clean the bath once a week to help keep birds healthy.
3. Stay messy - Wilder areas in the garden will provide shelter for a wide range of wildlife, so don't be too tidy.A second graphic giving advice for helping wildlife in hot weather. Advice on the grahich states:
1. Provide enough cover from the sun - Adding a log pile, rockery and tall grassy areas to your garden will provide cover for frogs, toads and newts seeking shelter from the sun.
2. Top up your pond - Ponds that are low can be topped up. If your water butt or rain barrel is empty you can use tap water - but only use a little at a time.
