Think it's important to recognise that he said the quiet part out loud: "we don't want many cyclists and forcing them to wear hi-vis and helmets is a means of limiting numbers." I would hammer every similar politician with this.

The revealing part of this is that he clearly thinks there's too many bikes, and that he clearly knows that insisting on useless safety gear will discourage cycling.

The two results that keep coming up, study after study, is that universal basic income and taxing the rich do all of the good things their advocates say, to almost ridiculous levels, and none of the bad things their opponents say, to almost ridiculous levels.

a little louder for the cheap seats in the back
One of the biggest myths is that men rape by mistake. Like, "Oh, they need consent training." But research is very clear: Sexual violence is not a mistake. It is an intentionally made decision by people who know they don't have consent. They just don't prioritize consent over things like status, power, domination, and sexual gratification.
For my research, I got a certificate of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health, so my notes couldn't be subpoenaed. One of the reasons I call them perpetrators in my work is because every single person I interviewed confessed in that context. The first question I would ask them was, "When you received that email from Title IX that you were under investigation, did you know what it was about?" Every perpetrator I interviewed said "yes." If sexual assault were a miscommunication, you would be wondering, What have I possibly done wrong? That is not the way that any of them reacted because they knew.

One thing I find endlessly funny about the rise of AI is that it has revealed that there is a large number of people who believe that the reason they wrote essays at school or university is their teachers were desperately waiting for them to provide a definite answer to “Lear: what’s up with him?”

It’s a stretch, but playing the match because it’s an ineffective protest not to *might* be an argument if the government were actually being decisive about doing what it thought *was* effective, rather than doing nothing more than empty speeches at the UN.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

Doing a bit of research on this at the moment. Apart from the hypocrisy, they're pushing a boulder up a hill, given the massive negative prejudice on trades here compared to academic degrees, to the extent that parents routinely tell teachers not to even discuss them with their classes.

Do they charge per bag? Strikes me that if it were free, then the pressure to fill large bags would disappear. When I lived in Utrecht, there was no bin day, we had communal underground bins that you would throw bags into, so you did that whenever a bag was full, but nothing was especially large.

Well, well, well - if it isn’t the consequences of our own actions. It would appear that migrants are not, in fact, the fiscal drain we’ve been told they are by years if we go by the £4bn to £6.5bn shortfall that’s been caused by the precipitous drop in numbers under this government. Funny that.
