Put another way, to be legible enough for AI to be useful to most families, they would have to stop communicating as the family they have known, never had to overtly think about, and become something stranger and coarser that has no cultural foundation. Why would I do that?

The funny thing is that the precondition for making AI agents— identifying and itemizing tasks— can be legitimately helpful for building time management and executive function. But once you’ve mastered that AI is never gonna be better at it than you. So why make an agent.

My district ended one to one chromebooks for grades 7-9 this year. Since i started my career during COVID this is a new experience for me. My students have been heatedly debating which color folder/binder goes with what subject and it just makes me happy.

DraftKings predatory VIP program that encourages problem gambling has been reported on already, by people interviewing problem gamblers— Danny Funt writes about it in “Everybody Loses”. Problem is the reporting doesn’t break thru on mainstream sports platforms, which are making money from gambling.

I happen to know someone who works in election oversight and the trump administration is literally just using the legal system (and extralegal goons) to harass state election officials and threaten them with prosecution. One should assume it’s all lies in a desperate bid to keep power.

My take on this is that there’s no identity that absolves a person of the obligation to develop and practice emotional intelligence or to restrain their impulses to be cruel when angry.

These allegations are a bombshell: the FBI informant claims Collins was in a pay-to-play scheme where donors to her Super-PAC were rewarded with government contracts. Trump stopped the investigation when he came into his office second term. As Collins would say, "concerning"

I’ll always remember my mom saying, in a eulogy for her mom, that she thinks there is always a kind of static interference between parents and their children. The intimacy of the relationship makes it harder in many ways to see things that are more obvious to an outsider.

Don’t want to QT but this is just a cruel thing to say. Any kid can struggle with academics and need extra support. A lot of kids with high-education parents do.

As a parent who is going to have the same choices NHJ has had, I am going to approach it differently than she did, but the choices are still going to be the same and still going to be dogshit, because this society hates Black children, and no one white sees fixing that as their responsibility.

The judginess is so surprising to me. I wonder if it’s a scenario where ppl who feel ethically conflicted abt what theyve done with their own children’s education need to put her idealism down to feel better abt themselves or if it’s people enjoying a chance to mom-shame

good read, especially for people in urban education. I think biggest error was assuming that correlation between parental income and education outcomes was causative. Flip side is poor ed outcomes for poor kids are not inevitable and we shouldn’t treat them as such. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/20/m...

Only tangentially related but i did a lesson on microaggressions and gave as an example for us to talk about as a class “you’re jewish? Does that mean you support israel?” and completely unsurprisingly every one of my 12 year old jewish kids has had people react that way when learning their religion

Realizing the extent to which this is true wildly changed my opinions about how to deal with Trumpism, since they're never going to be satisfied unless they're actively dominating everyone else. You can't give them some concessions and go back to the status quo: they're reactionary revolutionaries.

This is demonstrably, measurably improving the health of the people who live there. Most notably, it increases the respiratory *& cognitive* health of children. They literally do better in school. If this country really gave a shit about children, this would be at the top of the public-policy list.

Seth Moulton’s attempt to veer right on gender identity in order to try to win statewide office was especially stupid because just eight years ago MA voters resoundingly voted in a referendum to uphold trans rights. Similar margin to his loss to Markey! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massach...

I'll add some nuance here — most local pushback against data centers is actually quite fluent, and not grounded in the more wild-eyed rhetoric you see on social media. Very often, the core premise is a simple, correct one: you can't trust what Big Tech says in its promises to a local community.

I really appreciate the ease of early voting in Massachusetts. For the primary we had 6 days available and you hand deliver your ballot to the Town Clerk. It's super easy and secure. Obviously it requires you to get to a polling place, but it's such a good option for people who want flexibility.

Incidentally the use of “transition” as a transitive verb is an insidious little bit of propaganda: As though it’s something adults do *to* students, rather than something the students themselves do, with adults choosing whether to respect or disrespect that choice.
