Trans people have been warning y'all for years that they were perfecting tactics on us to use on everyone else. The reporter of this piece, Christina Jewett, contributed to that too. She helped fuel the moral panic over puberty blockers in trans youth. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/05/h...

I was thinking about the Anthropic, SpaceX, and OpenAI IPOs. What this might be a harbinger of is the end of public markets as a mechanism for growing wealth. Wealth inequality is so extreme that VCs, PE funds, and wealth investors no longer need a public market for growth, just exit liquidity.

This is your occasional reminder that generative "AI" in particular could have been developed on public domain materials and/or licensed and compensated works but the major players intentionally, methodically and systemically chose to steal labor from working creative folks instead

Exactly this. And in fact, many models *have* been created this way, and decades of prior machine learning systems *were* created this way, consensually. These things are choices! People are STILL working this way! It’s not just that a better world is possible — it already EXISTS. We can nurture it.

The politicization of gender affirming care, where medical evidence became subordinate to ideology, set a terrible precedent. While some stood up for science a LOT of people treated it as too confusing, too political, and none of their concern.

To expand on this: Bigotry isn't a result of an innocent misunderstanding, or not having all the facts. It's not a choice made rationally, defeated with a rational argument. Bigotry is a self-protective, foundational belief used to help make the world make sense to them. Debate won't change that.

A product like this has no pro-social function, and it doesn't need to be reliable. The existence of the tech creates plausible deniability to violate rights even when there is extensive evidence that it is wrong. This is the system working as intended.
