The word ‘island’ contains the same element as ‘Jersey’, ‘Scandinavia’, and ‘Batavia’: Proto-Germanic *agwī, a word meaning “land in or close to a body of water”. It was derived from *ahwō, a distant cousin of Latin ‘aqua’. ‘Island’ isn’t related to ‘isle’ at all. Click my graphic for more:

Do you know any parasitic wasps that live nearby? My porch was covered in big black widows until they came and cleared it out
A Sphex wasp, likely Sphex lucae that actually prefers to attack katydids.
The wasp is long and thin, solid black, and its wings have a metallic purple sheen. It's perched on some tiny yellow flowers, because everyone likes flowers

that's always the argument, 'it can't be that bad if all men do it' and then they never prove that all men DO do it bc obviously that's impossible. i'd like to see men get way angrier about this actually. they're insulting you! they impugn your name constantly to make themselves feel less immoral!

Spring, the yellow flowers are starting
Two absolutely giant yellow irises next to a black and white ruler. In that the flowers are 1/3 the size of the plant itself, they're rather small compared to the ruler that goes all the way to 10cmA tiny yellow and purple bell shaped fritillaria flower. They're known for having an odor, but this one seems mild. Or it's another thing I can't smell anymore, either way

Yes, the sky is usually solid black in infrared. They probably upped the exposure until the parachutes were visible, which would explain why the heat shield is an overexposed white blob

Aster family is pretty reliable for interesting ultraviolet photos, Gazania hybrids
A yellow Gazania with a black ring at the the base of the petals surrounding the center of the flowerThe same yellow Gazania as before, but in ultraviolet you see multiple black and "yellow" concentric rings A solid orange Gazania. Rather boring really, to our eyes just another orange flowerThe same orange Gazania, but in ultraviolet the petals nicely fade to black near the center, the absolute center looks almost sparkling

Palmer's penstemon in visible light and ultraviolet, notice how the waxy coating reflects the uv so well. No clue what's going on with the colors in the uv photo, in theory it should all be greyscale
Penstemon palmeri in full color, the flowers are pale purple and the leaves are waxy in comparison to the plants next to itPenstemon palmeri in ultraviolet; most of the photo is black and white except for the flowers which are purple for some reason I don't fully understand. Karpov vs Korchnoi, 1978
Wiki entry:

The match had many bizarre incidents
Karpov's team included noted Soviet
psychologist and hypnotherapist Vladimir
Petrovich Zukhar [rul, while Korchnoi enlisted
the help of two American Ananda Marga yoga
specialists who had recently been convicted
of attempted murder and released on bail.(1]/2]
There was more controversy off the board,
with histrionics ranging from X-raying of
chairs, protests about the flags used on the
board and Korchnoi's complaints that Zukhar,
sitting in the front row, attempted to hypnotise
him.[3l When Karpov's team sent him a
blueberry yogurt during a game without any
request for one by Karpov, the Korchnoi team
protested, claiming it could be some kind of
code. They later said this was intended as a
parody of earlier protests, but it was taken
seriously at the time.!4]
