An engineered bacterial symbiont maps micron-scale sugar gradients in the honeybee gut
A prior PLOS Biology study engineered bee gut bacteria to sense their microenvironment. This new study engineers a native honey bee symbiont into a living biosensor for arabinose, revealing its spatia...

Using Claude science for a « in silico » structural biology project. Definitely very useful to automate processing pipelines and data processing. But makes a lot of errors and is going in the wrong direction if not carefully guided and monitored. To be handled with great care

Experimental evolution reveals genetic routes for adaptive loss of the antibacterial type VI secretion system
Taillefer et al. show that a bacterial type VI secretion system is lost or attenuated during experimental evolution when it provides no competitive advantage but is maintained in the presence of susce...

Check out Snorre's latest preprint: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... I love this story: our 4-species synthetic bacterial community coexists across many simple environments and conditions. We show why (spoiler in the title)

Local peptidoglycan composition defines division site selection in Streptococcus pneumoniae
Nature Microbiology, Published online: 07 April 2026; doi:10.1038/s41564-026-02322-6Sequential peptidoglycan carboxylase activity of DacA and DacB generates a local peptidoglycan signature that recruits MapZ and establishes the division site at the Streptococcus pneumoniae cell equator.
