The last chapter of my PhD work is now live on MBE. This has been an incredible project, combining genomics, proteomics, as well as transcriptomics that resolves total mRNA from ribosome-associated mRNA (which we infer to be in the process of translation).

Stress-adapted codon usage enables efficient virulence-gene expression in Salmonella
Virulence genes in bacterial pathogens are often A/T-rich and horizontally acquired, yet they must be translated efficiently under stress and nutrient limitation encountered during infection. Here we ...

Type VI and type IX secretion systems and gliding motility contribute to facultative predation by Flavobacterium johnsoniae
Paillat et al. show that Flavobacterium johnsoniae combines type VI and type IX secretion systems with gliding motility to efficiently kill diverse bacterial competitors. They demonstrate that nutrien...

So -- What are Ralstonia and why are they goopy? Ralstonia are bacterial pathogens of plants. They colonize and clog the water-transporting xylem vessels, causing rapid-onset wilt disease—they can fatally wilt plants within days. This timelapse by Jonathan Jacobs shows a sped-up time-course.

Check our new perspective paper exploring how the seed holobiont goes to sleep 😴 and reactivate for germination. A lot of exciting research to be done to understand dormancy mechanisms in microbes and plants ☘️ @emersys-irhs.bsky.social @irhs-angers.bsky.social
