In the vein of "public libraries could never be created today," a pitch for a calculator would get you thrown out of the boardroom. What do you mean, it just maths? Where are the ads supposed to go? How does it send usage telemetry back if it doesn't even have wifi? There isn't even a leaderboard.

"A physical book is a delivery mechanism for information," it continues.
"Once that information has been extracted and encoded into an Al model, the delivery mechanism has served its purpose. What remains is paper, ink, and binding material. The book is not destroyed. Its value has migrated.
The paper returns to the material cycle; the knowledge enters the intellectual one."

I enjoyed The Odyssey (2026) but I have one historical nitpick. The phrase “Jiminy Christmas” is a minced oath for “Jesus Christ”. As the story is set around 1200 B.C. it is unlikely that Odysseus would have said the phrase even once, let alone the dozens of times he says it in the film

One of the most inspirational stories for creative artists from recent times is that relatively unknown comic Hannibal Buress exposed Bill Cosby to be a monster and somehow it totally caught on and stuck.

I'll summarize this: Mamdani asked NYers to keep air conditioning at 78 degrees. A wave criticism hit online. A MSNBC broadcast pointed out the US Department of Energy recommends that 78 degree figure. Immediately after, the US Department of Energy deleted 6,000 web pages related to energy saving.

Visiting family. I brought two books and bought two more at an antique store along the way. Now I want to always travel with a comfort stack of books.
Four books of mine stacked on the dresser of the guest room at my in-laws’ house. The house is nice and quaint and, also, I’ve brought some of my own quaintness just for me.

Saw this outside last night, a perfect line of lights moving across the sky. Surreal. Then looked it up, FFS it’s SpaceX over our house. Not to mention it’s the first time I’ve seen google search results defaulting to this AI convo view. I want to opt out of all this.
I googled “string of lights in the sky”. It came back with an AI conversation view with some pictures and the following text:

The string of lights frequently spotted moving in a straight line across the night sky is a "Starlink satellite train" launched by SpaceX. These, often 60 at a time, are satellites being deployed to provide global internet, appearing as a "string of pearls" due to reflected sunlight. They are most visible 1-3 days after launch, shortly after sunset or before sunrise. • YouTube +5
Key Details About Starlink Sightings:
• What They Are: A constellation of satellites from SpaceX designed to provide low-cost internet to remote areas.

You develop an instant global consciousness, a people orientation, an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world, and a compulsion to do something about it. From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch

Bowen Yang left #SNL 100% voluntarily (afaik, and maybe that’s rare?) and now he’s in T-Mobile ads that play during SNL. The perception when watching every new SNL: he was able to leave only by crossing the border between entertainment / advertisement, and those ads serve as like a reminder.

So if I have this right.. the spark of human innovation is truly magical, happens once or twice in a lifetime… but really that magic is just made by maxing out a few key qualities (marketing?), and AI has all those qualities, 10/10 A+, so bring it on.
