A customer just tried to use an employee discount code that ChatGPT gave her. I work at a high-end clothing store and clocked in to my manager telling me about the most unhinged interaction from yesterday. A woman walked in asking if she could use a 40% off code she got online. We don't have any sales running, so my manager looks at the screen and realizes ChatGPT straight up handed this woman a real employee's internal ID number.

If Intel had not axed Optane it would have made a killing now with the DRAM price crisis. It would have needed a PCI4.0 or PCI5.0 interface ofc but things like swapping contexts/storing and restoring to model memory and swapping of models would have made batch local inference possible

The companies that tell you their AI products will destroy the world often offer weekend discounts through GithubCopilot to encourage usage. They cannot compete on price with the ChineseModels, they are burning cash they can no longer secure from VC & their IPOs are doomed to flop. Put 2+2 together

The gold standard for producing PDF documents (especially books and journal articles) has been LaTeX. @typst.app re-engineered the entire process in an incredibly elegant extensible way. On my MacOS LaTeX (TexLive) takes 9.1GB of disk space. Typst takes 43MB. Not a misprint.

Just to be clear disallowing or capping publication costs in grants is not a bad idea. Some journals are asking for exorbitant fees, enough to fund a few months of a new post doc or pay for a big equipment or even the cost of a new experiment.

I never followed the genetic data on LP(a) but apparently there is so much moaning that it betrayed us (or rather the cardiologists and 2 pharmas) so I have got to ask: were the genetic data , garbage polygenic risc scores, mendelian randomization, or something equally worthless?
