Does anyone believe that fixing Ottawa’s transit system is all about uploading the light rail to the province? Would an LRT upload fix transit in Ottawa for you? #ottawa #betterottawa #613trending

Having failed to deliver LRT, manage it effectively or deliver on promises made, uploading will relieve the city from accountability; it won’t do anything for bus commuters, nor other public means of getting around (bike share, sidewalks, etc). And remember: there’s on 1 taxpayer. And it’s us.

Right-on-red inquiry: Councillor finds more questions than answers on pedestrian safety priorities - Capital Current
Ottawa Public works says right-turn-on-red restrictions are considered “case-by-case.” The staff report says “potential safety impacts, concerns and increased traffic congestion, as well as compliance and enforcement challenges” as the reasons why restrictions are not in place more widely.

“ Staff need another study on the private delivery model bike share” 1. If the private model worked we would have bike share. 2. Is staff going to investigate funding roads or Transit as a private model? No. Council needs to give clear direction: get on with bike share.

A poignant reminder that Ottawa’s council and senior staff accept traffic deaths as inevitable. Its policy: ❌ Scarce funding for traffic calming ❌ No commitment to Vision Zero ❌ No political will to prevent another tragedy This election year remember those who offer nothing but condolences.

A net-good #Ottawa sidewalk story 🧵1/2 Good news: In time for the school year, new sidewalks! Used by 100’s of Broadview and Nepean HS students daily. Kudos to planners for 2m sidewalks, 3m car lanes, reducing crosswalk distance and slowing down drivers.
Looking South on Denbury Ave is a new sidewalk and road, measuring 2m and 6m respectively. This sidewalk serves a neighbourhood campus of 1800 students.

I am 100% ready to join you to “ban right on red”. Montreal has this, but only because that’s the way it always was. Other cities elected to allow right turns on red, to allow for greater traffic flow. And look who’s paying the price. Day after day, another tragedy. Make this an election issue.

Imagine sidewalks were always there and the city wanted to pull them out. Would the anti-sidewalkers cheer this on? Probably not, but change is harder for some. I hope the city is able to convey why the community needs this in simple terms. And then get on with it.
