Hooray for Spooky Season! Since the Autumn Equinox was this week, I'm not even early! I'm posting weekly #Inktober (or #Artober if you like) efforts over on my YT channel. This week's prompt is 'Apple' and I'm reading "Goblin Market" in parts. www.youtube.com/channel/UCfd...

My delayed surgical date has me playing chicken with my gallbladder. Apparently, it IS really hard to get rid of a belligerent squatter who adds onto the rental in ways TOTALLY against the building code in the SF Bay area!

I finished a sketchbook this week. No tour or first and final pages to show this time, because it's my figure drawing notebook I take to live drawing sessions. NSFW. But yay! Another filled sketchbook joins the shelf. Progress since that first page is evident. :D Time for the next one.

Real talk: I had COVID for the first time last fall. It set me back 15 years of ME/CFS recovery. So I'm getting a really light, foldable electric WC so I can get back to leaving the house on my own a healthy chunk of time. Days good enough for ebiking haven't been thick enough on the ground.

I'm an avid #ebike rider. It's the only exercise my body tolerates with #MECFS and #LongCovid. It also makes me feel more like me, who rode my Schwinn to the train station for my work commute 8 months of the year. It only added 10 minutes to the commute on a good day, saved hours vs 880's bad days.

The fundamental issue of this week is recovering from last week. Personally, I'll be slowly cranking my sleep schedule back to daytime, following the heat wave that kept me up to the wee hours, until I was cool enough to sleep. It's a low-stakes life.

In a small box of Sculpey sheep (D&D villages have neighboring fields!) that I'm numbering for a homebrew Murderbot game, I found a post-it from my QA days: "USE THE STYLE GUIDE, DAMMIT!" Yesterday, I handed developmental edits for a TTRPG back to the author. Very "full circle of hats I've worn."

On PEM, exercise and deconditioning #LongCovid #ME
The choice is not between no exercise and getting deconditioned, or exercise and preventing deconditioning; it's about finding a balance between keeping moving as much as possible without negative consequences so as to keep as conditioned as possible - as more exertion leads to more crashes leads to MORE deconditioning. The harm of promoting exercise consists of risking the illness getting worse AND deconditioning getting worse.
Pacing will help with the severity of the illness
AND with remaining as conditioned as possible. If you don't understand that, you have understood nothing about PEM.

During the last week of May back in 2020 it was established that 100,000 COVID deaths (just in the US) amounted to “an incalculable loss.” And by that metric during the last week of May here in 2026 (just in the US) we are at 12 “incalculable losses” and still growing.

If all the news about the hantavirus outbreak has you searching for something you can do: wear a mask; and if this passes and it turns out you don’t need it to protect yourself from a hantavirus pandemic, it will still protect you from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
