Can “jumping genes” spread like viruses? New research from the Brennecke lab at IMBA shows that, in fruit flies, certain transposable elements can break out of their own cell and slip into developing eggs—securing their passage to the next generation. Published in Cell: imba.science/4jdMuYQ

I really enjoyed "What We Can Know" by Ian McEwan. It reminds me of drafting a paper. All the information is there, but the reality- how you got there, which wrong turns you made, all that is not part of the story that is told in the paper. There are hints; if you read carefully, you find them.

My son's favorite thing to do in Amsterdam is to visit the Huttendorp in the Jeugtland playground. He shows up, they give you a hammer, nails and a saw and off he goes to play around with wood and build something.

I have a love/hate relationship with traveling for work. It is exhausting and takes you away too much from family. But then you have some of these trips that invigorate you and make you realize why you love your job. The conversations with like-minded people, making new friends and getting inspired.
