I became a librarian to give kids books and put on puppet shows but today I made a bookmark for food assistance resources in my area, because I know my library has families who depend on SNAP and I know a lot of folks are ashamed to ask at the reference desk. It’s a dark kind of moment.

Let's be clear: no one should be taking medical advice from the man who told Americans to inject bleach. To moms worried about the Tylenol they took while pregnant: you deserve better than being RFK Jr's scapegoat. And to the autism community: you are loved exactly as you are.

This shit sucks man. Medically proven and effective treatment that would save trans youth a lifetime of pain and discomfort in their own bodies thrown in the trash because our country enables the most evil people imaginable.
Youth anti-trans legal risk assessment map From Carla Lewis: this breaks my heart. there are now only FIVE safe states with strong protections for trans youth: new mexico, minnesota, vermont, hawaii, and massachusetts. if cis people don’t start fighting hard for trans youth, then soon there will be no safe states. an entire generation is going to suffer needlessly

Republicans in Utah commissioned an investigation into gender-affirming care for trans youth after banning it in 2023. They're now rejecting the findings of that investigation which showed access to care reduced suicides and improved "positive mental health and psychosocial functioning outcomes."

Utah lawmakers’ own study found gender-affirming care benefits trans youth. Will they lift the treatment ban?

We're living through the Who Cares Era, where completely disposable things are shoddily produced for people to mostly ignore, while the government stomps its uncaring boot on our necks. But there's an easy way to fight back: Care. I wrote about it: dansinker.com/posts/2025-0...

Why didn’t the liberals and the anti-Nazi conservatives unite to stop Hitler? The answer will not make you feel great about today’s Democratic Party.
Ryback, focussing on the self-entrapped German conservatives, generally avoids the question that seems most obvious to a contemporary reader: Why was a coalition between the moderate-left Social Democrats and the conservative but far from Nazified Catholic Centrists never even seriously attempted? Given that Hitler had repeatedly vowed to use the democratic process in order to destroy democracy, why did the people committed to democracy let him do it?Many historians have jousted with this question, but perhaps the most piercing account remains an early one, written less than a decade after the war by the émigré German scholar Lewis Edinger, who had known the leaders of the Social Democrats well and consulted them directly—the ones who had survived, that is—for his study. His conclusion was that they simply “trusted that constitutional processes and the return of reason and fair play would assure the survival of the Weimar Republic and its chief supporters.” The Social Democratic leadership had become a gerontocracy, out of touch with the generational changes beneath them. The top Social Democratic leaders were, on average, two decades older than their Nazi counterparts.

This kid is 15, and so has a moral clarity and uprightness that no adult elected official would or could ever have. There aren't really and never have been two sides of this issue, but if it has to be argued as a binary thing I don't see how anything less than this could seem like the side to be on.
