A reminder for those at the back.

A redraw of the i nice panel from Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, where Batman snaps a rifle in two over his knee.

He says "THIS is the weaponnof the enemy. We do not NEED it. We will not USE it."

I've replace the rifle with a plank of wood labelled "AI Slop"

When you see McDonald's hesitantly and pathetically lazy attempt to return to corporate pinkwashing, remember that in 2024 they went full on maga, becoming like a core and very visible part of trump's whole campaign.

men don't read in general as much anymore for the same reason that there are no longer any great conservative writers, because non-instrumental knowledge and expression and literature have been overwhelmingly rejected as gay and feminine by modern conservatism

Nic Cage:

He continued: “How do you survive AI? Amazon is a very AI friendly company to the tune of 50 billion dollars invested to OpenAI. I am not an AI friendly actor. I didn’t sign the waiver to let them use AI on Spider-Noir. It’s kind of like I’m probably not going to be working with that studio again. But that’s OK. So I got to get with these young directors who are Gen Z and they’re going at it their own way, whether it’s through the YouTube culture or whatever it is. They’re doing it from scratch and by hand. I want to get with that.”

Nurse is a job that attracts the worst kind of traditionalist-reactionary woman, because it gives them power over people while still being in keeping with traditional gender norms, the way most positions of authority aren't. That's why they marry cops so often.

Why does every microwave have a “popcorn” button but every popcorn bag says “DONT USE THE POPCORN BUTTON?” We went deeper than I thought possible getting the DEFINITIVE answer. Talked to the popcorn industry, the microwave industry. Even the inventor of popcorn sensing microwave technology.

But for an example, he'll cite D&D's The Tomb of Horrors as this incredibly deep and obscure lore, when it's the single most infamous prewritten adventure ever published for the game. He's the personification of "have you heard of this obscure hidden gem of a game called Minecraft?"

I like references, I'll cheer any time an animation does the Akira Bike Slide, but Ernest Cline is the only guy who would draw the Akira Bike Slide and then have a spectator shout "Wow, that's the Akira Bike Slide, from the 80s cult classic anime Akira!"

1183 0

Lt. Com. Alexis Chaircheck @chaircheck.bsky.social · 08/10/2026

The worst thing about the references is that he doesn't trust you to get them. Every time he makes a reference, he goes, "James said 'Never Tell Me The Odds', like in the cult classic 80's movie Star Wars." You didn't have to tell us the reference was from an 80s cult classic, Ernest. We all knew.

THAT'S YOUR BIG NOSTALGIA BAIT??? There were teens dressed like the 80's, listening to 80s movies and doing 80s dance moves. That's as descriptive as you're going to go with this?

020 0

Lt. Com. Alexis Chaircheck @chaircheck.bsky.social · 08/10/2026

I hate Cline for being BAD at 80's nostalgia. He writes, "He’s surrounded by teenagers whose clothing, hairstyles, and dance moves all indicate that the time period is the late 1980s. Grinning maniacally, he spins in rapid circles, flawlessly cycling through several signature ’80s dance moves."
