Sometimes I look over my Bluesky posting and feel a bit embarrassed about how shallow I seem to have become: it's almost all about games, and nothing any more about philosophy, religion, or politics. Then I remember how those conversations tended to go on here and I stop worrying about it.

As with Based and Superstructured, I'm not quite sure what "games that shaped who I am" means. However, I could explain to you how each of these games changed how I related to games or what I thought games can be, which is probably good enough. These are in no particular order.
An array of images on a white background. At the top reads, "My 9 Games," with a subheading, "The 9 Games That Shaped Who I Am." The images are the covers of nine video games, each labelled. They are, in order, MAJESTY: THE FANTASY KINGDOM SIM, FALLOUT 4, WILDERMYTH, DISCO ELYSIUM, MASS EFFECT 2, WARCRAFT III: REIGN OF CHAOS, HOCUS POCUS, TIME SPLITTERS: FUTURE PERFECT, and HALF-LIFE 2.

Let's do this right here: Time recording in your TTRPG play: Do you do it / have you done it to any significant extent? I mean everything from "We mark days on an in-world calendar of events" to "Someone notes down what happens during our dungeon crawls (mostly in order)" and beyond. Tell me!

I do like it when there's some kind of implied story in these little bots that you can't quite get the edges of. If so many of the residents are clowned, why is vaudeville banned? Is it because they're soldiers now? There's something there, but I don't know what.

I remember @smrvl.bsky.social kicking around ideas in this neighbourhood (not on here). I do really like the idea of plot armour with a specifically-shaped hole in it; a lot of people seem to think that diminishes the tension but, if you build that hole right, it can ratchet it up!

The cat on the left is looking for a large bug she saw in the bathtub once in the apartment we lived in two apartments before this one. (The cat on the right just has FOMO.)
Two domestic shorthair cats are perched on the side of an empty bathtub. Seen from the back, they appear to be staring intently at nothing (which is exactly what they’re doing).

It was only *this year* that I learned in any real detail of the many, many threats to Canadian territorial integrity that the US has long, long, long presented. Very much a blind spot in US discourse. And very much a core theme of US foreign policy in North America for decades and decades.

Close up 🎨 ✨
Close up -Cover art I created for • Year's Best Arthropod Short Fiction Vol. 3 by Hexagon Magazine • - Cover is a rectangle of a symmetrical detailed mirror half drop repeat pattern inspired by arts and crafts era wallpaper. In the middle section is a dragonfly facing down from overhead with paper wasps facing outwards above over top of branching leaves. Below and above is the central repeated motif of a large leaf insect from above framed by lace wing butterflies turned outward and stag beetles facing inward.
Surrounding and underneath all of them are stylized leaf branches with round large berries. The entire pattern is in intense ochre yellow and mahogany brown shades with pops of pale yellow for the berries. Over top is a handmade paper texture and fine line ink work in brown and pale yellow for threadbare highlights on the wasp and butterfly wings.

CROWS sounds like a lot of fun so far, but I do think it's funny that a) Colville needs to explain what d66 means and b) he learned about d66 by trying to play some wargame. I'm guessing he doesn't read a lot of ttrpg blogs, where you can't throw a stone without hitting a d66 table.

Yeah, it's supposed to. There's almost always a moment in a zombie film or show where this is driven home. If horror is partly about having a bad time on purpose, the bad time in zombie horror often involves having to fight monsters you care about. (This is not in any way a criticism of OP.)

I read through MUTANANNY last weekend at the cottage and got kinda excited about it. It is very much *not* the kind of post-apocalyptic ttrpg I'd make (or, ahem, am making), but it knows exactly what it is and I admire that. Someday I'll have to run a five-ish-session campaign in the Moistlands.
