And I, shall I not have pity for Nineveh the great city, in which there are many more than one hundred twenty thousand human beings who do not know between their right hand and their left, and many animals? ⓥ ⳧

Today I passed by a radio playing 1984 pop hit "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)," which I enjoyed.

I love Altizer. He is the only evangelist I am able to reliably understand. Almost all Christian theological speculation terrifies me and makes God seem like the adversary of myself and all creatures. Altizer, uniquely, sets me at ease and makes me think, "There is no God except my faithful friend."

I increasingly feel bad speaking about religion because, over the past couple years, people's routine statements about religion have frequently induced horror and desolation in me. Sermons can be terribly violent and the internet makes it so easy to give them. It is so easy to speak carelessly.

Click consonants are not intrinsically stranger than other consonants, but, because I do not often hear them, my brain parses them as a kind of rare delightful treat to get to listen to, no matter that I know rationally that this is just what normal Xhosa speech sounds like.

Playing around with numbers is one of the rights of all humans who desire to do so. Like literacy and speech, numeracy is a joy with ten thousand faces. It can never be exhausted, neither monopolized, nor removed from the realm of creative play.

The niche once filled by my suicidal ideation is now filled by periodic bursts of death anxiety where I want to thank all the living and the dead for their kindness in existing with me and sharing their wonders with me in a terrifying and precarious existence. Thank you all.

The most captivating part of Le Morte D'Arthur to me is that Galahad and Launcelot spend half a year adventuring on islands inhabited only by non-human animals. I want to know the goings-on of those islands so badly, but we hear none of it.

I bought a slightly more expensive form of tofu today because the kind I usually get kept going bad, and I now realize that habitually buying the shittiest cheapest tofu was a terrible idea which has deprived me of great joy. Never again..!

The first time he lost to his son, the future Rebbe Eliezer of Dzhikov. Seeing him play one day, Rebbe Naphtali scolded him for wasting precious time, time he could have put to better use — to study Torah, for instance. "It's not my fault," said the little boy. "It's the fault of the yetzer-hara, the evil spirit. It's he who led me into sin." — "Well answered, son," said the father. "But you should follow the example of the yetzer-hara; even he, by inducing you to sin, does obey G-d's will. Why don't you do likewise?" — "For him it's easy," said the little boy. "The yetzer-hara has no yetzer-hara to influence him against obeying G-d's will!"

I just realized that I likely confabulated my memories of Hind Rajab being discussed before her death as a cute Gazan child who people sympathized with. I have been upset for years that I originally knew this kid in this way and have since had to know her in the context of her genocidal murder.

I once said, "I could never see Elon Musk as an actual person until I learnt how awful he is at making jokes in a way I can relate to," and my family scolded me for demeaning myself, but I was truly happy to be able to peek into the lived experience of this disturbing name that haunts my world.

I grow to love Faustus (the person, not Goethe & co.'s character) more and more, and consider myself his sworn friend. I will not be dismissive of him, I will receive his name with warmth, I will attend to how I can best know and be affected by him, in the condition of his death.

I would like to hold positions which people creatively and productively reject. These rejections will often make me reformulate the positions I hold, especially when they reveal subtle hardheartedness or violence. But not so that I will now be accepted as correct, but to inspire new rejections.

I have discovered that the Wikipedia article for fear has a history of people thinking the introduction is terrible and changing it, not enough to make it good but enough that the editor finds it tolerable. I am glad to have had a hand in this proud tradition.

I think people are too judgemental of Gregor Samsa for trying to go to his job. Yes his job is terrible and he clearly resents it. But let him deal with that in the way he wants and at the time when he is ready. It has benefits: it is an opportunity to get out of the house and roam around.

This section of the Wikipedia article for fear infuriates me. [21] explicitly does not claim that non-humans must be addressed in behaviouralist terms. It argues that neuroscience should not perpetuate a bias separating evolutionarily "lower" emotionality from "higher" cognition.
Attributing fear to animals, whether an invertebrate or vertebrate,[15] is equally problematic because the human observer is always imposing that label.[16][17][18][19][20] Animals displaying an emotion "akin to fear" are rather fundamentally exhibiting reflexive defensive behaviors—your fear may be their withdrawal, avoidance, or defensiveness.[21]

I respect and love the arthropods who live with me in my home. I never intend to harm them. Even without malice on my part, there is still suffering here: limited water and food, predation by other arthropods. But their lives are their own and I cherish them.
