What I'd like to do with Thoughtcrime is to make afro-fantasy/future/grimdark/whatever stock art more available to ppl. It becomes a sel-reinforcing cycle: every time I want to do something in TTRPGs, it is easy to find plentiful sources until I want black faces, then... it gets difficult.

I am helping sit a cousin's dog, one who wants to play fetch all day long, and this is what he expects me to throw:
A photograph in which a pair of fingers at the top of the image, very near the lens, pinches the tattered remnants of a red maple leaf, which dangles partway down the image; just scraps of leaf tissue cling to the broken central vein. Behind leaf, very nearly in the centre of the frame, is an out-of-focus dog, though his brown ears, nose, and eyespots make clear that he is starting at either the leaf or the person holding it. The dog stands upon a truly filthy black carpet, and I wonder whose fault that might be?

Sometimes I look over my Bluesky posting and feel a bit embarrassed about how shallow I seem to have become: it's almost all about games, and nothing any more about philosophy, religion, or politics. Then I remember how those conversations tended to go on here and I stop worrying about it.

As with Based and Superstructured, I'm not quite sure what "games that shaped who I am" means. However, I could explain to you how each of these games changed how I related to games or what I thought games can be, which is probably good enough. These are in no particular order.
An array of images on a white background. At the top reads, "My 9 Games," with a subheading, "The 9 Games That Shaped Who I Am." The images are the covers of nine video games, each labelled. They are, in order, MAJESTY: THE FANTASY KINGDOM SIM, FALLOUT 4, WILDERMYTH, DISCO ELYSIUM, MASS EFFECT 2, WARCRAFT III: REIGN OF CHAOS, HOCUS POCUS, TIME SPLITTERS: FUTURE PERFECT, and HALF-LIFE 2.

Let's do this right here: Time recording in your TTRPG play: Do you do it / have you done it to any significant extent? I mean everything from "We mark days on an in-world calendar of events" to "Someone notes down what happens during our dungeon crawls (mostly in order)" and beyond. Tell me!

I prefer it when things are explicit, so I'd actually like it more as a rule, I think. Anyway, I agree it's interesting to think through what it would mean if it was a rule.

Contrast it with this one, immediately prior: bsky.app/profile/wast... Two possibilities leap out to explain the ubiquitous nudity: brigands are notoriously licentious; if many of them are clones, they may figure that their bodies aren't anything the others haven't (more-or-less) seen.

I do like it when there's some kind of implied story in these little bots that you can't quite get the edges of. If so many of the residents are clowned, why is vaudeville banned? Is it because they're soldiers now? There's something there, but I don't know what.

I remember @smrvl.bsky.social kicking around ideas in this neighbourhood (not on here). I do really like the idea of plot armour with a specifically-shaped hole in it; a lot of people seem to think that diminishes the tension but, if you build that hole right, it can ratchet it up!

Mind you, that's for my main campaign. I run a catch-as-catch-can hexcrawl, where I take much more detailed notes and have an exact timeline. And I have a Fate Core game where I also keep tracking of the date (in part because the story revolves around the Oct 31 - Nov 11 stretch).

I have a notebook in which I take session notes; although I take them terribly, one thing I keep track of is whether or not they've slept. So I have a rough mental tally of the weeks passing, an accurate memory of shorter stretches, and enough to reconstruct what I forget when it matters.

Two domestic shorthair cats are perched on the side of an empty bathtub. Seen from the back, they appear to be staring intently at nothing (which is exactly what they’re doing).

To make sure that readers don't think this isn't just about people generally being better than they're thought to be and isn't that so sad, you'd also need a guy who everyone likes but is actually such a jerk, just a really awful guy. One of the worst. 4/6

Of course, you'd have to have a character who is seen by those around him as being much worse than he really is. Because he is awkward and doesn't like the things other people like, people think he's unkind when he really isn't. 2/6

I was thinking last night that, if I was finally going to try to write a novel, I think it would be about the ways people misunderstand each other. I don't mean on the level of sentences; I mean that I'd dramatize someone fundamentally misunderstanding who other people are. 1/6
