🌀🌡️ As Hurricane Isaias barrels towards the Alabama coast, Argo floats are picking up near-record sea surface temperatures of 30°C-31°C. Hurricanes are fueled by ocean temperatures over 27°C. 📲Learn how ocean observations help us stay one step ahead of these storms: go.whoi.edu/hurricane-info
A meteorological tracking map showing a hurricane’s projected path through the Gulf of Mexico toward the U.S. Gulf Coast.

The storm's path is marked by concentric circles at its center, near the Tropic of Cancer, with a black track line extending north-northeast. Two thick blue lines frame the projected cone of uncertainty.

The wind field is represented by color-coded concentric bands extending outward from the storm center:
- **Purple (center):** High-intensity core.
- **Red/Orange:** Strong winds.
- **Yellow/Green (outer bands):** Decreasing wind intensity.

The outer green band stretches north, making landfall across Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle. A red line highlights a section of the coastline indicating a warning zone. Numerous blue buoy icons with identification numbers are scattered across the Gulf of Mexico, with several positioned directly in the storm’s path. Time stamps such as "1200 UTC OCT 08" mark the storm’s progression along its track.

Self-reported antibody validation practices among researchers. Distribution of IWGAV pillar usage among survey respondents (n = 107). Of 107 respondents, 77 (72.0%) used at least one IWGAV-aligned validation strategy, while 30 (28.0%) used no IWGAV pillars, relying instead on technical controls only (n = 26) or performing no validation (n = 4). Among IWGAV users, 44 used a single pillar, 22 used two pillars, 10 used three pillars, and 1 used five pillars.
