Hey, I’m just asking questions. Ignorant questions, bigoted questions, questions that have been repeatedly answered for many years. Sorry, but I’m not listening to answers right now; I’m far too busy asking questions. It’s called being intellectually curious.

The real, actual danger is not some Matrix/Terminator scenario, but the banal, very real economic bomb that AI is building at the center of the US economy right now. Overspending & overleveraged for an infrastructure buildout frenzy for products with lousy public adoption and no profits.

A great hidden secret of the so-called "automated era": an invisible army of poorly paid, Global South labor manually checking Google image searches, Amazon machine learning, etc. It's called "microwork", yet another capitalist innovation in hyperexploitation.
A TIME investigation found OpenAI hired Kenyan workers to data label pieces of text to make its platform less toxic. 404 Media’s reporting shows the world’s leading large language model (LLM) companies are also hiring human reviewers to read real users’ conversations to improve their models

A really solid point. The people making their so-called Terminators are also selling you the John Connor. It's not "galaxy brained marketing", it's dumbass marketing. All of these clowns are either high on their own farts or bullshitting us to pump an IPO. Get real, no one is buying this.

The image is of a four panel comic.
In the first panel we see a dragon sitting on a pile of treasure. A speech bubble pointing off panel reads, “Dragon, why do you have all this treasure?”
In the second panel we zoom in on the dragons face. He simply says “shiny”.
In the third panel we pan to the left and see that there is a crow standing next to the dragon on the treasure.
In the fourth panel we zoom in on the crows face. He says “hell yeah”.

All the amazing people I saw growing up, watching in TV, movies, music are passing away. It's brutal. Inevitable, but brutal. You think they're immortal, and in a way, leaving behind incredible bodies of work, they kind of are. But they're not. I wish they were.

Tech is spending $1 trillion on AI this year. In the last year, AI investment was 36-45% of all GDP growth. There's not enough energy infrastructure. Massive debt is being hidden in subsidiaries. They're building an economic bomb.

"A bunch of people would rather post on Race War Now Dot Swastika rather than Bluesky because you keep making fun of their imaginary computer friend" is a RESOUNDING endorsement for the concept of hostility.
Part of a thread from some bluecheck:
Multiple people I know have told me that they love the idea of Bluesky, and want it to succeed, but have abandoned it for X because the use agentic tools in their work and find them incredibly useful, and feel that any mention of their usage here leads to hate and ridicule.

I wouldn't bring this up if it was just one person, but it was multiple people since the beginning of August who mentioned in passing something to the effect of either "I'd spend more time on Bluesky if people weren't so anti-AI" *or* "As much as I hate to be there all the useful AI talk is on X."

I'm not saying it's anyone's responsibility to praise AI usage. I agree with much of the criticism of the tool. But for many, many people, it is a useful tech (I have talked about the ways I find it extraordinarily useful, only to have people here mock me, insisting my lived experience is a lie).

I am just noting that for all the people here who say that people should get off X and spend more time here, the reason I keep hearing from people in various circles who would *like* to do that, but don't, is the vociferous belief of many here that there are no possible positive uses of AI.

But is Spock getting less flavoursome over time? In this essay,
