The Austerity Riots are already starting in Europe because they have a direct memory of the Post-2008 reality that was imposed on them to make sure The Rich & Powerful stay Rich & Powerful during the early 2010s. This will likely spread to US cities once the Financial Apartheid begins in earnest.

The best thing I did years ago was to decide to organize myself rather than to tell others how they need to/should be organizing. Once I started doing so, it became clearer to me just how difficult it is.

Hence, the need to fill textbooks with patriotic lies about Manifest Destiny, the comfort women in Korea, the Land Without a People, the Lost Cause, etc. Soporifics to rob the youth of their thirst for a better world.

I remember Will Menaker once made the point that there is some truth to the conservative idea that if you give students an honest account of history, they will grow up to hate America, or Texas (or this case Israel) because the facts do not maintain the illusion of a moral actor.

Speaking to PubliCola last year, staff who were involved in the creation of the report expressed intense frustration at being asked to turn their office into one called a “propaganda arm of the city” by the Harrell Administration. “We tried to soften the language to appease them,” that staffer said, but the report ended up making claims that just weren’t supported by the data. “I’m not going to spend my waking outs doing that,” the staffer said; that staffer, and another staffer who worked on the report, quit their jobs and left the city over what they saw as interference in their work that compromised its integrity.

Perhaps the biggest part of the American Myth that even I have trouble separating myself from is the 'heroic individual' as the center of All Things: A boundless, indefatigable protagonist - ever optimistic and having a personal relationship with God (really just a projected mirror self)

Boeing, Microsoft, Amazon regularly do things far more brutal than shutting down a ferry system, it's just that Bob Ferguson believes they have the right. He's wetting his pants because he's not used to power being wielded by someone other than his handlers.

Can you advocate in support of renters at tomorrow's budget hearing? Oct. 6, 1pm remote or 5pm in person. The Stay Housed, Stay Healthy Coalition has created a guide to giving public comment with suggested talking points to help you get started: tinyurl.com/tenant-servi...
A group of six older people holding handmade signs pose outside of council chambers. The signs say, "Tenant services = awareness of my rights as a senior tenant!!" "Senior renters need tenant services," "Save tenant services", and "We are senior renters! We need tenant services!"

Manhunter is funny compared to other Hannibal adaptations because you can tell that Michael Mann is way more interested in Will Graham and his big sexy brain figuring things out that he is any of the bad guys or other characters. Why would you care about the serial killers when there’s this guy?

Again, the US isn't structurally racist because people *feel* it is. The US is structurally racist because empirical research across a wide range of fields, from history to sociology to economics, has *shown* it to be. This is the right way to think about US history, and people should be taught it.

If you critically examine the "logic" at play in this entire situation, it reveals the contradictory, faux morality of modernity. We've instituted barbarism, while pretending to be humane about it, and the state is angry that the illusion sold to the public has been shattered by incompetence.
