If a national leader talks about “extreme tail risk” but isn’t making massive investments in climate transition, they are full-of-shit.

THIS. Christian Democracy’s mission statement is, basically, protect society and stability to make sure fascism doesn’t happen again. The first and permanent opponent of the centre right is not the centre left but the far right. And any EPP party that forgets that needs to remember it rapid.

So cool that whenever someone asks the president, "did you eat the Lindbergh baby" he's like, "no but I'd be allowed to, I have the right to, I might do it later"

See that small bright object in the middle right of this image? That's the small icy moon Mimas. Floating in space against a backdrop of giant Saturn, the planet crossed by shadows from its rings.
A black swath of shadow crosses the scene from top left to bottom right. The background is various shades of blue and grey. A small, illuminated crescent is at upper right. The lower portion of the image is lighter grey/brown.

More and more convinced this is the game being played with all these announcements. We'll soon have GOOD REGULATED AI (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, SpaceXAI) and ILLEGAL UNREGULATED AI (i.e. existing open weight and other foreign models).

Snakes. Spiders. Heights. Fark, why'd I move back to Oz with the first two? We literally have snakes living in our roof now (not joking, though they're pythons not poisonous ones which is novel for me, I'm not from this part of Oz)

Astrophotographer Adam (AJ) Smadi caught this image a few hours ago from Washington state. A thin crescent Moon, sunlight illuminating the rugged lunar surface. And 2,400 times farther away—and on the other side of the Sun—mighty Jupiter, and its moons Io (left) and Ganymede (right).
A crescent Moon seen during the day, arcing from upper left to lower right of the frame. At lower centre is the full disk of Jupiter; the small dots to its upper left and lower right and Io and Ganymede, respectively.

A suggested statement for Andy Burnham.
‘The British public decided in the 1930s that they would not tolerate black-shirted militias marching through their streets. They would cherish robust political argument; they would not accept thuggery and intimidation. When Oswald Mosley led his Blackshirts to Cable Street, local people turned them back. A new law – introduced by a Liberal, backed by Labour and carried by a Conservative majority – banned private militias, political uniforms and ‘the use or display of physical force in promoting any political object’. The British people are as determined today as in the 1930s that they will not accept the methods of Mussolini and the Munich Beer Hall. This government will uphold the law and defend the traditions of British democracy’.
