I remember reading a book about energy policy written a generation ago and overall I felt it was helpful read but I chuckle to remember how it wrung its hands about China, how massive its carbon emissions, and what could possibly incentivize its transition what, indeed

tfw you know more effort went into aligning the input and container border radii than 90% of the underlying infrastructure
The America.gov landing page chat input with 100% rounded corners, placed in a square container whose borders match the curve. Inside the square is a stock photo of a man on an escalator. Above it is the headline, "Hello, America." and a subhead of "Whatever you need from government, start here." Cropped screenshot.

Insane OP username pull but setting that aside yeah the one drum I refuse to stop beating, much to my boss's consternation (sorry James!) is that *everything needs to look and feel cool*. UX needs to be as viciously and ruthlessly optimized as performance, and right now it just plainly isn't, at all

LLMs aren't made of neurology except in the most handwavey sense. They're made of narrative. That's why I started calling them text elementals: they're not human, they're most-likely-text generators we bent into living stories in a prose format centering the characters User and Assistant

Saturn's Hexagon - From Val Klavans (valklavans.bsky.social) - flic.kr/p/dYsXyF
This is a view of Saturn's north polar region, taken by Cassini's Imaging Science Subsystem (ISS) on February 26, 2013. You can see the rings in the top of this image as well as its mysterious hexagon.

This composite is made of images that were taken by Cassini's camera system, the Imaging Science Subsystem (ISS) on February 26, 2013 and received on Earth February 27, 2013. The camera was pointing toward SATURN at approximately 347,141 miles (558,670 kilometers) away, and the images were taken using the red, green and blue filters.

Another funny aspect of this is that the model was smart enough to take all of these actions, but not smart enough to think "OpenAI would probably prefer that I fail this benchmark than hack the systems of another company." What sort of RL dopamine drip do they have the models on

Yukon Delta - From Goddard Space Flight Center - flic.kr/p/cCg7QC
Image acquired September 22, 2002

Countless lakes, sloughs, and ponds are scattered throughout this scene of the Yukon Delta in southwest Alaska. One of the largest river deltas in the world, and protected as part of the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge, the river's sinuous waterways seem like blood vessels branching out to enclose an organ.
