Updated chart for 2024:
Chart: levelized cost of electricity ($/MWh) vs. cumulative global installed capacity (GW, log scale), 2010 to 2024. Solar fell from $417 to $43/MWh as capacity grew from 40 to 2,200 GW. Onshore wind fell from $111 to $34 (180 → 1,052 GW). Offshore wind fell from $203 to $79 (3 → 83 GW). Nuclear rose from $96 to $182 at roughly flat capacity near 390 GW. Coal rose from $102 to $122 (1,700 → 2,175 GW). Renewables are IRENA global weighted averages; nuclear and coal are Lazard US midpoints.

Another opportunity to post my favorite graph www.lazard.com/media/eijnqj...
A graph showing the levalized cost of energy over time, broken up by source of energy. It shows the radical decrease in solar energy cost per megawatt over time.

I'm confident that open models will continue to keep up with closed, albeit at a certain lag. But, I guess I'm more curious about workflows, especially for non-programming applications (since I live in the UX space mostly)
a graph of two stepped lines, going up and two the right, showing that closed AI models are always ahead of open AI models. but, there is a consistent lag, and open models are always close behind.

I will never forget you, Pepsi Universe
A 3d depiction of orbiting Pepsi logos, like an atomA sphere made from lines, with “x=8 light year” on the bottom

I’m sick of billionaires using my former field as a playground for AI apocalypse fantasies. TMS and ultrasonic stimulation has been around for decades but you want to use it with genetic modification of human brain cells? My guy?!?
During a recent talk, Shapiro talked about how sound waves and magnetic fields can be used to create a brain-computer interface. Rather than stick electrodes into brain tissue, he said it’s “easier to introduce genes into cells” that modify them to respond to ultrasound. He said he has made “my mission to develop ways to interface with neurons in the brain and cells elsewhere in the body that would be less invasive.”

luv 2 feel a little more depressed this morning - nothing is real and no one cares!! reminds me of @sarahjeong.bsky.social's great piece on @theverge.com: www.theverge.com/2024/8/22/24... H/T @livagar.bsky.social on the other place
"A Twitter thread screenshot. The main tweet by @Liv_Agar asks 'Is everyone ready for this for the rest of your life'. It includes a nested image of a young girl with wet hair in a life vest, holding a small puppy, both looking distressed in what appears to be flood waters. Below, a conversation shows someone claiming the image is AI-generated, with another user responding 'Who cares'. The tweet has 231 replies, 10K retweets, 160K likes, and 2.7M views. A follow-up tweet by @Liv_Agar adds '*until industrial supply chain collapse', with 15 replies, 24 retweets, 4.6K likes, and 154K views."

'I use technology in order to hate it properly' - Nam June Paik
A person, the artist by the name of Nam June Paik, is seated behind a vintage television set, with their face appearing on the TV screen as if they are inside it. The individual is holding a phone to their ear and has a serious expression. The background is a plain white curtain, and one of the person's arms is resting on the edge of the television, with their hand visible near the bottom of the image.

@lawtonpybus.com isn’t active on here but I’ll answer anyway: I use Notion right now to track progress, but it’s an intermittent relationship. Most of our analysis happens in Dovetail.
