A) To repeat, night sittings are an optional choice the PC government has made, not a necessity B) It takes 5 MPPs to force a recorded division which is then deferred to the following day, the idea that the government was in danger of losing a meaningful vote is silly.

To my mind, Rob Ford was a pioneer of the "i will hurt the people you don't like" emotional delivery and presaged Trump in many ways. Carney delivers on "we're better and smarter than Americans". Mamdani is interesting because he's promised a lot - so we'll see if he's found a way to deliver. 2/2

I think that 'emotional satisfaction' is about the only thing that most politicians can deliver to their mass constituents - they are largely unable or unwilling to deliver mass benefits (or the method is so complex they won't get credit). So the emotional benefits are what gets delivered. 1/2

One of the great paradoxes/frustrations with Toronto councillors is exactly on issues like one John highlights here. Moscoe won re-election by more than 20 points every time. He knew what the right thing to do was, it almost certainly wouldn't have cost him anything, he could have just done it.

No Toronto Liberal MP should take being reelected for granted. They continue to play this city. Their own TPA is making plans (900m runway), asking for non disclosure agreements and not revealing anything while MPs keep saying they know nothing, they’ll stand up for TO. Just constant emptiness.

“left turns are near-universally permitted—regardless of how much congestion they cause” Can’t we just eliminate left turns on streetcar dedicated streets all together? I mean if the aim is to reduce congestion and speed up moving more than single occupants, ban LEFT TURNS. #TTC

Also consider the difference in how the TTC operates versus Metrolinx. TTC board meetings are held at City Hall, open to the public, with plenty of time for deputations. Metrolinx mostly operates behind closed doors, with minimal public meetings. www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...

I think it's more than a commentariat thing - I think people are hungry to see someone 'standing up to him' even if it is only verbally. I think that, outside of late night comedians, people see everyone 'official' simply agreeing or acquiescing. I think that in Canada there would be appetite 1/2
