Truth and Reconciliation Day is so important. I’ve seen groups of school kids in orange shirts, gathering in our local parks with their teachers to learn about the injustice, racism, horrors & trauma that Indigenous children experienced through Canada’s residential school system.

Together, we fought back against Doug Ford’s proposal to expand Billy Bishop Airport with jets. We advocated for a plan for our city’s waterfront that includes an accessible regional airport, economic development, beautiful parks and healthy neighbourhoods.

Visiting our Toronto-St. Paul’s neighbours at their homes can be a lot of fun, and a truly meaningful experience. We learn more about what’s important to our community- and what we need to focus on to represent them well. It’s also a great opportunity to check in on so many friends!

A few years ago, Lori Beazer stopped me on Eglinton and asked…told me that I was going to support her exciting vision to bring an Afro-Caribbean Farmers Market to Little Jamaica. So I did.

Monica and George Lewis, may they rest in peace, helped pioneer Toronto’s Little Jamaica. Their son, Junior Lewis continues their legacy as a community builder. We’re working together on everything from celebrating culture to making living and working in the area more affordable.

The Meighen Health Centre is such a special place, where people can age, and receive the care they need, with dignity. It is also a community full of people I care about, including the staff, residents and their families. It was a true pleasure to be there with them today.

The cost of groceries is way too high. When small, affordable local grocers at Davisville and Yonge were displaced, we rallied together as a community to ensure they found a new home right here in the neighbourhood.

Along with our friends in Rochester, the City of Oswego, New York (despite having a largely Republican voting base) has taken a stand, rejecting President Trump’s attempt to erase the name of Lake Ontario. Thank you Mayor Robert Corradino for your principled leadership.

Together, we fought for the TTC to replace the standard monthly fare with a fare cap! And we did it. No more guessing how many rides you’ll take or paying a lump sum at the start of every month.

Doug Ford is sole-sourcing Ontario teachers’ entire classroom supplies fund to an American-owned chain in the middle of a trade war. The Premier has big words and big signs, but he could cancel the Staples deal and open the fund to local Canadian businesses instead.

Our parks should be places where we all come together and have fun. I’ve advocated for Toronto to finally update outdated rules and to explore new ways for all of us to enjoy our parks, including the new food kiosk pilot program and more bathrooms - like cities around the world already do!

Everyone deserves a home that’s comfortable, healthy and safe. That’s why I’ve been fighting to protect renters with a maximum temperature by-law. And after more than a decade of advocacy, we finally achieved a commitment that we’ll get that by-law by next summer.
