So I've been merrily accepting the HALF-BAKED copyeditor's substitution of "toward" for "towards" (neither is better, it's a regionalism/style sheet issue) when I thought to check which we used for the DREADFUL style sheet. Towards. Checked with editor. Now I'm going back and reverting them all...

Looking for a regrettably relatable gift for that special someone? I know, I know, I'm not ready, either. But there are some folks who like to get their holiday shopping done early, so I'm opening this up early.

My most feral middle aged writing snack - two tablespoons of peanut butter that I repeatedly press into fiber cereal and raisins. Scrape off the layer of cereal with my teeth, repeat.
Bowl of the exact thing I just described. It's very brown. (Placemat is colorful though)

I don’t know what I expected, but it wasn’t this. “The Last Adult Superstore” looked like a Costco, a football field-sized rectangle of a building with cheap white walls. If not for having their name ...

The whole modern attention economy is weird. As authors, we're encouraged to try to create this kind* of parasocial relationship. But I know for me, encouraging obsession versus friendship feels weird. Is it healthy for any of us? Probably not. But this is where we are, currently.

I think I've figured out that these first two chapters aren't working because I'm starting the protagonist in entirely the wrong social position. I probably need to re-write almost all of them, but hopefully it'll work better now? Hopefully? Please?

So I get why people are making fun of the Rolling Stone article that anyone who says they haven't heard "Choosin' Texas" is lying for clout, because the reporter is definitely falling for an average familiarity fallacy (thanks, xkcd.com/2501/) but.

So earlier I grabbed some basil from the plant on the deck and ripped it up for my salad. I noticed afterwards that my hand, despite washing, still smelled really strongly of basil. And then I unthinkingly rubbed my eye. So, uh, don't do that

Again I am begging all LEGIT people running cons, signings, talks, events, etc. to stop using Ai to write your emails. What's happening is ALL THE SCAMMERS/CONMEN are ALSO using it, and so your emails are basically indistinguishable from them. They give off slop vibes EVEN IF YOU ARE LEGIT.

Pompeii is a UNESCO world heritage site not because it was remarkable in its prime, but because it survived to our era untouched: one moment, preserved for all time. But future generations won't know what OUR world was like unless we do the same. This is why we MUST bury Toronto with a volcano

A spaceship landed in the park. A door dilated. An alien emerged with a chair, which they sat down on, backwards. "Look," they said, "we're not here, okay? You know why nobody contacts you? Because the write-up would be such a pain." They sighed. "Get your shit together, okay? We know you can."

I'm in the early stage with this novel that there's just a ton of setting up stuff in my head but it's not contributing to "Words Written" or even the outline yet. Which is all very necessary work, but makes it hard to feel like I've accomplished much.

I misread this, but it gave me a fabulous idea. A room that's a gift shop (which guests must exit through) in which everything is a tchotchke purchased at a gift shop. And the guest isn't allow to leave without choosing a gift. (They're not buying it, it's a gift. You must remove stuff from house.)

I think I'm dumping half a dozen books I've only gotten half way through. Some combo of waning attention span and being asked to read a lot more books professionally has seriously dampened my reading speed lately, and I think some of it is forcing myself through stuff I'm not actually enjoying.
