Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026And food is also so much more than sensory - it's also culture, tradition, and social connection. A kind of art. But that's why they want to remove it, I think. Because those don't generate value for shareholders. Processed meal-replacement bars do. 020
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026I'm trying to make healthier eating decisions (woo midlife cholesterol readings!) but I am trying very hard to do it by taking deep pleasure in healthier foods (and occasional pleasure in more indulgent foods). Like - it's apple season. Really good apples are AMAZING. Why drink Soylent? 110
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026But the tech bros take "food is fuel" and turn it into the idea that food is JUST fuel and the only justification for it is turning it into work. And... we should enjoy food? The preparation, the anticipation, sight/smell/taste/texture, even sound can be deeply pleasurable and you should like it? 110
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026The phrase "food is fuel" is such a double-edged sword, for example. In a time where Ozempic is making food and the desire for food an enemy, it's good to be reminded that your brain literally runs on glucose. We need sugars. Trying to remove food is literal death. Food IS NOT WEAKNESS OR BAD. 110
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026If only taking cold showers makes you 15% more efficient at working 80 hour weeks at a job that would replace you in a week if you died at your desk...what is the misery FOR? 110
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026But I only want it so I can then spend that time/money/effort on something satisfying or pleasurable! I wanna be done cleaning the bathroom faster so I can read a book or spend time with people I like. I want money so I can do cool things and be comfortable. 110
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Like, I totally get wanting to hack through unpleasant things. A hack for a chore I don't like that makes it take less time? Sure! A hack that makes effort go farther - that helps my workout build more muscle or gets the last of the expensive shampoo out of the bottle? Great! 110

Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Yes, they would. They want a robot to read to their baby, they literally don't want to do anything but give orders to robots and watching money piles get bigger. They don't actually want to experience life or longing at all. 180
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026It's MUCH easier when you're observing than when you're actively participating in the conversation. It's a lot of variables to be juggling! 080
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026and asked if the kids could come over to his house and stomp the spotted lantern flies menacing his grapevine. 😂 tl;dr I was weird in preschool and shockingly, my child is proudly weird as well. 2100
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026I wrote a detailed email to the head of the summer camp, including links to all the relevant Dept of Agriculture pages. Fortunately, he was already aware of the spotted menace, apologized, promised to train staff on this one exception to "don't kill wildlife" rule... 150
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026But my kid, who normally leaves bugs be (except mosquitoes), had already been trained along with me by my mom in spotted lantern fly identification and eradication. (Yes, Grammy is the problem here 😂 Sorry, Mom). And he was irate at the ignorance and injustice. 180
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Well, one of the counselors had gone off on them for animal cruelty. I think she thought she'd basically caught them pulling the wings off flies or something and was appalled. 140
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026*note for non-US Eastern seaboard folks - spotted lantern flies are a HELLA invasive species that we think hit the US in 2012 but really exploded population-wise in the last five years or so. NJ Dept of Agriculture has a kill-on-sight order. 160
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Well, except that history then kinda repeated itself with my own kid. Several years ago, at summer camp, he came home absolutely furious. Because he'd found spotted lantern flies* and had organized a spotted lantern fly eradication team of kids stomping them. 170
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026And so I needed to not eat them, even though I was correct, because most adults were stupid and I shouldn't scare them. (I don't think this was how this was phrased. It was, however, how I took the message.) 2110
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026And she was like, "no, she knows what wild strawberries look like, she's correct. She'll be fine." Teachers continue to be appalled. 140
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Teacher FLIPPED OUT. As far as the staff knew, I'd just eaten random poison berries and possibly tried to peer pressure friends into poisoning themselves, too. Mom was called, naturally. 130
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026In preschool, we were out on the playground and I found some wild strawberries. Sweet! (Literally.) I knew what these were, I knew they were edible, they weren't in someone else's lawn so they were fair game. I ate them. (I may have offered some to classmates, too, I was good at sharing.) 140
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026So my mom is a Plant Person. Worked at a florist when I was small, was on the landscape design team at a major university when I was older, owned her own company for a bit, is now a Master Naturalist focused on native plants for southeastern Pennsylvania. So I grew up knowing a lot of plants. 140
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Preschool. Story time about Caitlin and plant identification! 170
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026I'm neurotypical on this particular axis, but even for neurotypical folks, there's a range in how fast people can process the subtext. I'm EXTREMELY good at understanding and describing office politics. But I'm not great at playing it because I can't parse and choose the next move fast enough. 1110
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026and they'd thrive if you transplanted them (don't do this! Avoid invasive species!) but is it fair to have them both in my secondary world fantasy deciduous wetland? What about the songbirds? I spend way too long thinking about this. 030
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 13/10/2026I know some stuff about plants and I do tend to think about biomes when deciding on flowers and wildlife...but I angst a LOT about whether it's fair to mix continents. Like, this flower is from deciduous wetlands in North America and this one is from Europe... 130

Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 11/10/2026It's not a direct sequel - Half-Baked has new protagonists (but Valevna shows up as a terrible mentor and Orla gets to give baking lessons.) The comic book Crashed, on the other hand, is a new story featuring the core Dreadful cast. Eliasha's sister decides to get married at the goblin B&B. 110
Caitlin Rozakis @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Hurray! Hopefully you'll like the next one too - it's a got a goat girl who doesn't want to be a wizard and a necromancer who just wants to be a baker and a talking goat and an overabundance of ducks! 000
