Friends, I have a new translation coming out in 2027 from El Martillo Press and let’s just say it’s a 180 from my St. Teresa book.💙📚
Teresa of Ávila (1515-1582), painted by Rubens. Teresa wears the brown and white nun’s habit of her Carmelite Order. She writes with a quill in a bound notebook, as befits one of the great stylists and literary genre-busters in history. I translated Teresa’s poetry and wrote essays about her in my book, Sweet Hunter, published by Monkfish in 2024. https://indiepubs.com/products/sweet-hunter-9781958972496Black, red, and white abstract image for Speculari, a recording of sound poetry by contemporary Mexican poet Rocío Cerón. The sound album became Cerón’s book, Áurica Speculari, which I have translated from Spanish to English. Forthcoming in 2027 from El Martillo Press.

turn your face again / toward me Frank Bidart
THE YOKE

don't worry
I know you're dead
but tonight
turn your face again
toward me
when I hear your voice there is now
no direction in which to turn
I sleep and wake and sleep and wake and sleep and wake and
but tonight
turn your face again
toward me
see
upon my shoulders is the yoke
that is not a yoke
don't worry
I know you're dead
but tonight
turn your face again

I have a translation in the premier issue of Light Study journal—“The Breath” by Alaíde Foppa (1914-1980). Foppa is a Guatemalan/Mexican poet of great elegance, who among other works wrote a great series of poems, Elogio de mi cuerpo, from which the translated poem is taken.

Titled "Lake with Cypress" and was created by French artist Camille Bombois (1883-1970).
This oil-on-canvas painting captures a serene, sun-drenched river or lake flanked by towering cypress and deciduous trees, rendered with rich textures and delicate brushwork characteristic of French artist Camille Bombois. The composition draws the eye down a shimmering water channel where the soft afternoon light reflects across the ripples and lily pads, creating a tranquil, luminous atmosphere. In the distant background, hazy blue hills and hints of a small hillside structure evoke the peaceful, idyllic countryside of a classic European landscape.
