Anecdotally: I-5 being closed pushed some folks to transit, and this is a brilliant example of a) why we need to just demolish the inner eastside part of I-5 and b) why when we do that it will be just fine.

If Oregon Department of Transportation was thinking about the future of transportation we'd have more of this and fewer billions poured into freeway expansions.

Reminder that when some say Portland has "the highest taxes in the country," they often fail to mention it's only for individuals over $125k/year. And when they say it's higher than California and New York (oh my!), it's about a 3% difference and without those states' 8% sales tax.

That's what taxes are, man. That's the definition of taxes. "You are subsidizing things you might never use" man shut the fuck up. My taxes currently subsidize like oil company exec private jets, you think I'm upset at low-income people eating inexpensive bananas?

Something I'll never understand - if I want to make substantial enough changes to my house, it has to go through a neighbourhood consultation process, but someone on my block can buy a vehicle that significantly increases the chances one of my kids gets run over.

My biggest pet peeve is that there's a ton of scam websites that are "Free QR Code Generator"s then the QR code stops working after a few days and then redirects you to ask you to PAY to re-activate it. I made a page on website for making ACTUALLY FREE QR Codes. Enjoy. konig.games/QRCodes/ #QRCodes

Portland's job market is looking like it'll be pretty bad for a while. I can't think of a better time to encourage entrepreneurship in the city. Let people build Accessory Commercial Units in their front yards, or run businesses out of their garages. @councilorepg.bsky.social

Remember this picture, & others like it, every time you hear someone in your city say "we're not Amsterdam." This was #Amsterdam in the 1970s. Many of the cities we admire made tough choices regarding cars in the past, and are still making better choices today. Better choices instead of excuses.

I think the lesson of post mall Loyd Center is that if you give Portlanders affordable commercial rents they will do something great. But holding onto this building should not be the lesson. A reconnected street grid and dense urban housing will be great for the city in long term.

Such good inspiration for Portland's Residential streets: 1. Narrow roadways (with limited on-street parking) to reduce maintenance costs 2. Infiltration w/ vegetation to reduce storm water drainage/costs 3. Narrow X-ings / wide sidewalks that enable 8 y.o.'s to be independent 4. Family-sized units

Stop consolidation is a basically free way to speed up buses. We can have a really fucking good bus system if we combine that with other low cost measures like bus bulbs, far side stops, bus lanes, and que jumps.

We must change our entire relationship to the streets. Cars must be guests in our city: not the main way we get around. People have used cars to kill dozens in Portland this year already. We must stop that pattern. We can't only fund repairs. Big change requires vision & real, supportive funding.
