I have something niche to talk about! The first EPR law in the US recently went into force and as one of the companies subjected to it, it was … a surprisingly nice experience and I think more people should know what these laws are about. 🧵 1/

If you want to learn more about mask bans and how the government exploited anti-mask rhetoric and hatred of disabled people to push a eugenics agenda, check out my article from last year. Also, mask back up. We must normalize them as a public health tool. We must protect one another:

We Are Witnessing Real Time Eugenics... and People Don't Seem to Care.
Mask bans and revocation of medical exemptions have been all over social media this week - and anti-maskers are reacting with glee. They are celebrating disabled people losing a tool for protection.

For some reason my weather app hasn't been as reliable about including AQI data or warnings about poor AQI, so be sure to download the EPA's AirNow app and turn on notifications.

I have zero compunction talking about the fact that I almost always find or build references. Artists should work smart, not hard, and I think sometimes we're shy to admit that, like it takes away something from our work.

This is incredible. This computer science professor makes his students play a game that simulates the risks and repercussions of getting Long COVID, and then he's like, hey anybody want a mask? And: "approximately 95 to 100% of students who’ve played the game now wear masks in his classroom."

Someone said my art is a break from politics and for the record: my art is political In a world where billionaires at the top aerospace companies see space as exclusive ground for white men to conquer and colonize, I offer a quiet contemplative alternative for anyone and *everyone*
Angled cup featuring weathered spacecraft design and small round window in center showing astronaut looking out at branches wrapping around craft. Teapot featuring the Eagle Nebula and two floating astronauts holding hands looking at the scene. Detail of a yarn bowl showing an astronaut repairing a spacecraft above them and attached to a tether that leads to the yarn feed. Serving bowl featuring two astronauts helping each off the ground in the distance near a crashed spaceship, while debris is scattered around the middle and foreground on the cracking surface of a barren moon. Two exoplanets above.

An illustration of a Thylacine, sitting with its back to us, legs out to the side and face looking back at the viewer. The background is a plain reddish brown and the Thylacine is pink, light orange, dark orange, and yellow with dark green stripes. In the background is three yellow stars

New art made for June this year Trans right forever frog in the flower field #transrights #art #artsky #frog #frogart #pride
In big white letters, it says: "Trans rights forever." Below that there is a blue frog with white linework looking at different colored flowers. All their leaves and stems are white. There is a rose, blue, light blue, pink, and purple colored flower. Besides the flowers, there are little white flower bulbs. The grass is purple, and below that is light blue grass, rose diamond shapes, blue grass, and pink ground. Around the words are white stars while pink, rose, and blue dots.

THIS graph by @shattered.earth was something i needed to hear. now when i "can't draw" it's still really frustrating, but i can remind myself: this is normal and GOOD, it's just growing pains! i'm not just mysteriously losing my ability to draw for no reason!
a graph showing how, as your ability to draw and your ability to evaluate your own work grow at different rates, you can get "art highs" and "art lows" where the lines converge

Reminder to my artist friends that this awesome site exists. It lets you pick a species of animal, set the orientation of the skull, and then search for pictures of that animal that match the skull position. Also, consider tipping the creator if you found it useful! x6ud.github.io#/

"Your life should not be a museum." "Being alive is as special an occasion as it gets."
An image of three screenshotted tweets. The original from user @hell_doe: "Thinking about the girl who bought me coffee from Texas and joked that I would have to ration it out for special occasions. My friend, I do not save my good things. Being alive is as special an occasion as it gets."

User Mike Hamilton, RIV tweeted a screenshot of the original tweet to say: "being alive is as special an occasion as it gets" fundamentally altered my brain."

User Oliver Darkshire quote tweeted Hamilton to say, "Ten years as an antiquarian, hearing nothing but "my relative kept these untouched in a box their whole life but they died and I don't want this stuff" has radicalized me. annotate the books. use the china. wear the clothes until they wear out. your life should not be a museum."

“Self-diagnosis of autism is bad and fake!” In most of the US it can cost thousands of dollars to get diagnosed, there are no medical benefits to an official diagnosis, an official diagnosis can remove legal rights, and many countries may even restrict immigration attempts if you have a “real” diag.

I don't know how to express how *this* is the economy we all care about. We don't care that corporate profits are up or whatever the stock market is doing. We care that food is becoming more and more unaffordable.
"By the end of 2023, meanwhile, consumers were paying nearly 20% more for the same basket of groceries as they were in 2021."

Israel has killed nearly 200 humanitarian workers since October 7, in some cases in vehicles/buildings/settings where aid orgs were specifically sharing coordinates with the military, ostensibly so the IOF wouldn't target them.
