I said this in a thread last night and in a thousand threads before it, but you really are doing the work of those who would destroy democracy and the rule of law when you are a doomer. You can be aware of — and vigorously oppose — the lawlessness of this administration without insisting on doom.

It's not the only problem with this predictably terrible piece, but it is remarkable to me the sheer number of pieces about the decline of men reading fiction that engages with the invention of this little known device called 'the affordable home gaming console':

This Italian heritage month, celebrate the champ from Abruzzo, not the shmuck from Genoa.
two columns comparing wrestler Bruno Sammartino with genocidal fuckhead Christopher Columbus. On the Sammartino side:
• Escaped fascist occupation of Italy by hiding in the mountains with his family for a year
• Two time world champion, reigning for over 11 years
• Sold out Madison Square Garden 187 times
• Italian-American hero adored by people of all ethnic backgrounds

On the Columbus side:
• Responsible for the death of nearly 3 million indigenous peoples
• Never won a world championship
• Never sold out Madison Square Garden
• Not even American

A selection of fantasy tiller guns to populate your rpg sessions ! #art #weapon
Five tiller guns; a tiller gun is an early firearm making its appearance in the Late Middle Age. It is simply a barrel fitted onto a wooden pole for handling, before shoulder stocks replaced that layout.
The first gun is the Alchemist's Delight, a long textured bronze tube coiled into a crozier shape, fitted with pipes and valves and decorative grape leaves. The muzzle of it has been tempered into a gradient of reds and purples due to heat.
The second gun is Garmr, a much shorter weapon with a driftwood one-hand grip studded with nails. The barrel is dark cold iron patterned around its length with Norse runes, with the muzzle being the head of a snarling wolf. The whole thing is covered in bright red blood splatter, with the implication that once you've fired your shat you can just as well batter people with it.
The third gun is the Skórzana, it has a very long leather and banded iron barrel fitted onto an unprocessed birch pole. The barrel has a wide axehead attached to it in a style similar to a bardiche.
The fourth gun is Piquerisme, with a wide wooden handle marked with knife marks ending in a short hooked barrel on one side and a swordstaff on the other, both made of gleaming steel. The barrel has a simple serpentine trigger holding a slow match coiled around the handle.
The fith gun is Umirtà, with a large column-shaped brass barrel fitted on a ribbed wooden handle and fitted with sky blue tassels. The barrel ends in a small axe head, and bears the inscription "ANTONIVS CRASSVS 'SALVE' DICIT" which can be translated as "Fat Tony says 'hello' ".

The right wing crash out over asian students celebrating at a UT football game reveals that all along the true goal of reactionary colorblindness was never “meritocracy” but resegregation. (Gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...
Color-blind meritocracy was, for many years, a successful rhetorical strategy for undermining antidiscrimination law and excluding Black people from selective schools and prominent positions. That’s why so many former segregationists seemed to suddenly embrace the concept in the 1970s. For them, resegregation—not color-blindness—was always the goal. As long as the success of some immigrants could be used to paint Black students as undeserving, color-blind meritocracy was good. But now many on the right see a new problem: too many Asian Americans in elite spaces. Their success, therefore, must be portrayed as a sinister theft of real (white) Americans’ birthright.

The declining “social trust” that the administration warned against is, of course, not the fault of these students. The problem is bigots like Bo French who cannot accept into their community people who do not share their race and religion, and those who monetize or otherwise profit from that bigotry by spreading it through social media. Like the proverbial child who kills their parents and asks for mercy as an orphan, they are responsible for the problem they are decrying.

ELRIC AT THE FORGE OF FOREVER (2019) Acrylic on Watercolor Board - 14 ½” x 6 ½” When I tossed out the old container of paints used to do the cover painting for WORDS OF RADIANCE, it landed upside down in my wastebasket on a piece of paperboard I had been using as a palette for something else.
Elric stands on an outcrop of rock with skulls at his feet. He wears a black hooded cloak trimmed in gold and jeweled bracers. He cradles Stormbringer as the length of the runesword, glowing purple, extends well above his head. Below him water spills frothy onto the shore but as it stretches back, placid and glassy, it gives way to erupting vents of lava.

Poster art for the film VIY featuring the film title in big block text just above an enormous red monster with goofy flapped over rabbit ears, gem-like eyes, short arms, a prodigious stomach... looks like it's zombie-walking.
