🍂 𝔊𝔯𝔢𝔞𝔱 𝔎𝔦𝔫𝔤 𝔎𝔯𝔞𝔱𝔱 🎃 The dim-winged spirits of the night Do fear and serve me well. They creep from out the hedges of The fields where I dwell... ...Then dig a treasure called the moon, A very precious thing, And keep it in the air for me Because I am a King!

Text: Great King Kratt

Image: a double spread illustration at a dutch angle depicting a harvested field of corn under moonlight. A huge construct of branches, rope, and twigs skitters and lurches across the field on many legs like a great artificial spider. It possesses a face of many carved jack o lanterns, eyes and mouths flickering dimly under its shadowy bulk.

Remembering an interaction I had in like 2022 on Twitter, where I quote dunked on some art director saying about gen AI: "relax everyone, copyright will stop this, and honestly if someone is willing to use it, they're not a client you'd want to work with anyway" and thinking no, I wasn't too harsh.

Lmao the new photoshop has a new feature "layer cleanup", potentially useful, but in the end it's an AI thing that looks at your layers and names them what it "thinks" they are 💩

Watched a video of an artist drawing who was an obsessive canvas flipper and it felt so unsettling. (No shade, that used to be me. Nowadays I'm more of an extreme zoom in/out guy, I realized when I last recorded a session)

Had a meeting to pass on my teacher's mantle since this year I'm off. I had to give advice to my successor and I found myself going back over and over to ways of countering students' insecurity. It's an eternal theme, but we should really undo whatever makes kids ashamed of their drawings at 18.

So, these guys are recovering and digitizing cartoons from the old negatives (no AI) and the original quality on them is crazy. But people in the comments totally missing the point going "I prefer the "original" (faded print)" are making me foam at the mouth.
