“One thing is clear: There is huge demand from New Mexico’s parents for universal childcare.” Great model for Minnesota to learn from as the legislature returns this spring with what will likely be a mandate for (long overdue) universal childcare here #mnleg

Vote yes! Passing the MN constitutional amendment on this year’s ballot will increase funding to all public schools including about $1,000,000 per year to Minneapolis Public Schools. Don’t skip it - leaving this question blank is the same as voting no. (PS - Edison scored!)

tom olsen says we deserve more than a city in managed decline, and he believes minneapolis is on the rise, but the park board has been dealing with “death by a thousand cuts” for years in ways that park commissioners hear complaints about all the time- reduced hours, rec centers closed on sundays

My statement on Minneapolis Public Schools’ proposed “school transformation” plan.
Text above a signature reading: “STATEMENT FROM SENATOR OMAR FATEH ON MINNEAPOLIS PUBLIC SCHOOLS' PROPOSED
"SCHOOL TRANSFORMATION" PLAN:

"This decision is too big and affects too many families across the city to be made quickly.

This plan puts two schools in my district on the chopping block: Heritage Academy and Field Elementary, which has been open for more than a century.

The district has not made the case for these closures. Initial cost savings they have floated are insignificant to their financial picture, and no full analysis has been conducted of fallout effects.

This kind of major disruption deserves proper engagement from parents, educators and administrators, neighborhood and city leaders, and the current timeline doesn't allow for that.
The board should delay this vote and let those voices be heard.””

The degree to which police departments have financial incentives to over-respond to situations where their presence is straight up not needed at ALL, because they can make a bunch of extra money for zero personal risk, is something that even the pro-cop brigade should be concerned about.

A and B are separate clauses. So if it is audibly triggered while folks are Not on the property that is still a nuisance. Additionally if your apartment neighbor has an extremely loud alarm that is also reportable. Although the real solution there might be better building soundproofing in some cases

The city council passed a noise ordinance update banning obnoxious motion sensor alarms, with an amendment that specifies the sound must be audible from within a neighboring residence and that it won't apply to alarms triggered by motion within the property boundaries.
b) It is a violation to intentionally sound or permit the sounding outdoors of any fire, burglar, or civil
defense alarm, siren, whistle, or similar stationary emergency signaling device, except in the following
circumstances:
(1) The existence of an emergency.
(2) Testing the device, not to exceed four (4) minutes in an hourly period, unless approved by the director
when there is no reasonable alternative to exceeding four (4) minutes of testing and the testing is required
by state or federal laws, rules, or regulations.
(3) The sounding of a properly maintained car alarm.
(4) The sounding of a motion-sensor on private property so far as it is:
a. not Not audible from within an enclosed residential dwelling in an urban neighborhood or residential
mixed-use district boundary, or a permitted or conditional residential use.
b. Triggered by motion within the property boundary where the motion-sensing device is located.
