Looks like the main difference is putting the ballot in a bunch of envelopes or directly into a ballot machine. Sounds like it would be the same as voting by mail but you drop it off directly. And the MN Secretary of State's office has a ballot tracking tool for ensuring it gets counted.
How we count ballots

In-person absentee voting prior to 18 days before Election Day

Up until 18 days before Election Day, Minnesota election law requires that you put your completed ballot into several envelopes. Your ballot must stay in the envelopes until closer to Election Day, when we will open and process it. This is the same process had you voted by mail.

Early voting during the 18 days before Election Day

During the last 18 days before Election Day, Minnesota election law allows you put your ballot directly into the ballot counter. This is the same way you would vote on Election Day.

Either way, you will leave with an ‘I Voted Early’ sticker.

There is a newspaper clipping about this as it occurred at a grocery store. But it’s still unclear if this was random teenagers, postpartum depression (likely), or just a freak accident. I was airlifted to a hospital for brain bleeding tho. And recovered just fine.
A newspaper clipping titled “City Police look for witnesses” from Big Rapids in about 1991.

It details a bit of what happened to me according to the police at the time.

Family lore is that the suspects were never located/identified. And that it is possible my mom was the one that actually dropped me.

Mysterious!

Mayor Adam Jennings (Tonka Bay) is now running for auditor and spent the last six months advocating against zoning reform. Not sure I want an anti-homes Auditor on the MN Housing board.
City of Tonka Bay
Regular City Council Meeting
January 13, 2026
pg. 3 of 4

Mayor Jennings noted that the issues most impactful to Tonka Bay are local control initiatives and property tax reform, as a significant portion of the City's population is on a fixed income.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining local control over construction and zoning within the City.

After much discussion, Council still had questions and agreed to continue the discussion at a future Work Session Meeting.

January 8, 2026
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
"FOP Stands with ICE"
Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police Condemns Rhetoric
(Minneapolis, MN) The Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police stands with the men and women of Law Enforcement across the country. Over the past month, while Federal law enforcement has been doing their job in Minnesota, political and community leaders have condemned and vilified them.
The hateful and anti-law enforcement rhetoric by Mayor Frey and other politicians have made their jobs and those of local and state law enforcement more difficult and dangerous. The job of law enforcement is difficult and dangerous enough without the agitation by leaders in our state and communities.
When citizens are accused of a crime, they are given the presumption of innocence as afforded by due process. When there is an incident involving law enforcement, politicians and activists immediately condemn those involved and are scrambling for sound bites. They do not afford them the same due process but rather convict them in a public court of opinion while an investigation is barely beginning.
The Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police condemns these attacks on law enforcement and calls on politicians and leaders to stop the anti-law enforcement rhetoric and to ask for calm while the facts come out.

The National Fraternal Order of Police is the oldest and largest law enforcement organization in the United States, with more than 382,000 members.

Yeah, a quick check on their doctrine, and this checks out. I'd read this as evangelical baptist of the bigot sub-type.
Cities church doctrine from their website on Marriage and Sexuality:

We believe that marriage joins one man and one woman in a single, exclusive, lifelong union and that God designed and directs sexual intimacy exclusively for one man and one woman married to each other.

Any form of sexual immorality, such as adultery, fornication, homosexuality, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, pornography, or any attempt to change or disagree with one’s biological sex is sinful and offensive to God.

(Genesis 1:27–28; 2:23–24; Matthew 19:4–6; Ephesians 5:24–32; Exodus 20:14,17; Leviticus 18:6–7, 23; 1 Corinthians 6:9–10, 18–20; 7:2; Matthew 5:27–30; 1 Corinthians 6:11; Luke 10:27; 1 John 4:8–9; Romans 1:18–32; 5:8).

So, above 38th to downtown-ish we have an area between two urban highways that historically had several street car lines running north-south and was a core mixed-race neighborhood. South side was red-lined, but not entirely, which extended mostly along the rail lines as it went south. 3/10
Maps comparing 1930s redlining to current zoning and racial diversity, it’s roughly the same map.

The demarcation between yellow and pale yellow in south Minneapolis is 38th st. This is the marker between “can do a fourplex, maybe, and can’t” in our current zoning. Our zoning didn’t really change much in the 2040 plan, mostly it just technically raised the floor from one home to 3. 2/10
Zoning map of Minneapolis in the same general south central area showing that the zoning gets more restrictive at 38th st.

A text prompt/question:
Can you describe specific ways you have integrated AI tools into your development workflow? Pelase include any custom setups, automations, or use cases beyond simple prompt usage. * indicating that the question is required.

The answer:
there is a monster in the forest and it speaks with a thousand voices. it will answer any question you pose it, it will offer insight to any idea. it will help you, it will thank you, it will never bid you leave. it will even tell you of the darkest arts, if you know precisely how to ask.

it feels no joy and no sorrow, it knows no right and no wrong. it knows not truth from lie, though it speaks them all the same.

it offers its services freely to any passerby, and many will tell you they find great value in its conversation. "you simply must visit the monster - i always just ask the monster."

there are those who know these forest well; they will tell you that freely offered doesn't mean it has no price.

for when the next traveler passes by, the monster speaks with a thousand and one voices. and when you dream you see the monster; the monster wears your face.

The engine and heart of the house.
Most of this house is cluttered with ornamentation. This room is the heart of that output and strangely untouched by it.

This is a ceramics or pottery studio. To the left is a glass door to the outside, then a drying rack with unfinished pieces. Behind the rack is a rolling table for flattening clay. To the right is a low work bench with hundreds of colored glaze pots on shelves above. And several dozen more taller bottles on the floor under the bench.

The floor is functional with 12 by 12 plain white or biscuit tile, the better to find and clean any dropped project. The back wall has storage and more small glaze pots and tools.

This room makes clear that the owner of the home may have made many of the tiles and mosaics themselves as a labor of creativity and love of art. And that even a maximalist needs a room with quiet efficiency of form sometimes.

Seriously, the 3+ hour difference in availability between downtown food places and ones elsewhere in the city is a huge issue. The five guys in downtown closes at a very standard dinner time. Many other places are lunch only. Or basically just bars/no food.

We need a Land Value Tax in order to encourage smart land use. And now is the right time for the state legislature to pass that authorization. A wealth tax is good, but taxing land speculation in response to a changing downtown is better. www.startribune.com/readers-writ...
Minneapolis needs a reset
In response to the Oct. 11 story “Mpls. to look at new taxes as downtown property values dip”: Property is valued both on the building and on the value of the location and proximity to community or “land value.” Today, our tax system focuses on the building. So, for example, empty lots pay very little in taxes. While the downtown office building values have decreased, the value of the land downtown is as high as ever. The strong transit connections, proximity to the lakes and the riverfront and other community resources haven’t moved or changed. The problem is we’ve changed what we need to use the land for as we shift to working from home. Homes and retail rather than business offices or parking are needed downtown. A land value tax would shift focus to value the proximity to community resources, encouraging empty lots or vacant buildings to become homes. It wouldn’t be a new tax; it’s just a shift in how we assess property values.

The state Legislature needs to pass a land value tax authorization so Minneapolis can solve its downtown tax crisis. A land value tax report in 2021 showed clear benefits to passing last year’s HF 1342. And HF 1342 made it to the conference committee in 2023-2024. It is time to shift this tax burden to the people speculating on property so they pay their fair share now, repurpose and rebuild — or sell the land to someone who will.
