one of my favorite finds in undergrad was a hungarian textbook written in finnish, learned a good amount of hungarian grammar and it was nice to have a structurally similar language describing it.

page describing possessive suffixes and case suffix ordering, which differ between Finnish and Hungarian. The page gives examples in both languages and does a little comparative description of Finnish having the structurally original ordering (stem+case+possessive), and Hungarian having multiple orderings (stem+possessive+case, stem+case+possessive) due to newly developed cases coming from postpositions; noting that the original ordering is still present in some places in Hungarian.

The topic would take more effort to explain for a grammar not aimed at Finnish speakers.

the etymology of tolkien's word for elephant/elephants, mûmak / mûmakil, is mostly unknown within tolkien's own writing (and the plural formation is not described), but the plural consonant sequence m-m-k-l came to mind while listening to peter schrijver talk about the origin of camel

now slowly reading tocharian, i'm wondering if the choice to write "tākacer mant" as <tā ka ce rma-nt⸜> instead of <tā ka cer⸜ ma-nt⸜> is phonological. same text also has <tā ka cer⸜>, not joined to the following word, and two instances of "stām ñor" as <stā mño-r⸜> 'under the tree' (stām is 'tree')
