We are about 6 months away from my book, RESONANCE & RADIANCE, being released into the world. (April 13th, 2027!) RESONANCE & RADIANCE is a narrative nonfiction book about spectroscopy—the field of science that studies how light interacts with molecules. I want to share this book’s origin story 🧵:

Pink-bellied Moth! (Oenochroma vinaria) I found this magnificent creature in my garden last night. It was still stretching its wings, so I was able to get very close with my macro lens. Thank you for your patience, little friend! #invertebrates
Photo of a Pink-bellied Moth holding onto the end of a leaf. It does indeed have a pink belly, but also a pink face and pink legs with light and dark patches. Its eyes are dark brown, and its antennae are red with orange filaments.Same subject from above focusing on the moth's wings. They are a darker shade of pink than the belly with stripes of red and orange and dark red/purple patches. Its colours are not unlike certain gum leaves, and would probably camouflage it well in leaf litter.Same subject, cropped and focused on the moth's face. There is sufficient detail to make out the facets of its eyes, the top of its curved, pale-brown tongue, and the individual hairs on its face and antennae.

I would rather have this one guy back than the entire cabinet, staff, and even human printers of the administration.
Pierre Damas Bel was in college at Wright State University in Ohio when he was issued his bulky ankle monitor. He was an athlete.
And he hoped to study neuroscience and be a doctor. He was exactly the kind of young person whom previous versions of the Republican Party would have seen as an American success story. But he was a Haitian immigrant, so he was not wanted by the Trump administration, which did not seem to care who he was, or who he might become. In September, he called his father to say he felt "humiliated." CNN reported that soon after, police told his father that he had "thrown himself under a truck." A local pastor, Carl Ruby, said at a news conference that it was "our immigration policy that took his lifeạẠạ

Misty morning pond. Norwich VT, September 2026 #ECK #Photography #PhotographersOfBluesky #Scape #Landscape #Stunday
This image shows a view of a still, reflective pond on a misty morning seen from behind a set of tall green bullrushes. The eye is captured by a central rush, rising from the lower right corner, whose tip ends in a brownish-orange seed head at nearly the center of the image. This rush draws the eye to the far left shore of the pond, where another set of rushes and bushes are reflected in the nearly mirror-like surface of the pond. Behind the central rush, other slightly more distant rushes rise from left to right, framing a tree on the right shore of the pond, and its reflection in the water. The image is finished by the appearance of part of a willow on the left border of the frame, and more distant trees behind the pond that gradually vanish in the mist.
