there's a very cool photo of them together with coach royal! LBJ was intent on his and lady bird's horns not losing talent bc of segregation (small aside, DKR did end up losing players like mean joe green later on, but local rumor has it pinned on how he'd treat every player, not just black ones)

Juneteenth has been a state holiday in Texas since 1980, largely due to the work of Al Edwards, Houston native & TX state representative for District 146. He spent 19 years building support for a Federal Juneteenth holiday & although he died in 2020, his dream became reality in 2021.
