Just a reminder: Tillis persuaded the woman Hegseth allegedly raped to come forward with her story, and told her that if she did, it would sink the nomination. She did. At great risk to herself. Tillis then cast the deciding vote for Hegseth. Because he’s a goddamned coward.

Outgoing Sen. Tillis regrets pivotal vote for Hegseth: ‘He’s an actor. He’s not a manager’
Outgoing Sen. Thom Tillis spoke to MS NOW about regretting his vote to confirm Pete Hegseth and his strained relationship with Trump.

Seattle Times editorial board complains about $30,000 bonus for Sound Transit head, but apparently had no problem with $50,000 bonuses for three Seattle police command staff (Barnes, Sayles, and Powell), all of them just thank-yous for taking top jobs here.

Sound Transit CEO's $30,000 bonus shows a big disconnect | Editorial

And a particularly gnarly photo from my colleague Jack Baker, because in the last little bit investigators with EPD flipped the car back onto its wheels:
The flipped car on its wheels now. It has no windows, with the windshield in a teal bunch of glass hanging on off the corner. Airbags are deployed throughout the car. The entire front hood and bumper of the car is mangled, with engines and internals visible.

When people are incredulous about how Northwestern CFB is so good, I like to point to how great their transfer portal pickups were. The Minnesota-Duluth pickup was Dehnicke; Michigan State was Chiles; Florida State was Sawchuk; and UConn was Honig (among others). Now the core of this team.

On the other hand, Braun has been an underrated head coach. He’s always overachieved there, in the manner of a Dave Clawson or Jonathan Smith (when he was at Oregon State). This program is in much better shape than it was under Lt. Gen. Pat Fitzgerald.

For Obama, the grassroots were useful for one thing: getting out the vote. The last thing he wanted was for millions of activated voters to turn into activists who'd flame him and harangue him and picket him if they didn't like his compromises. Boy, did Obama ever compromise.

Plus, the "White House Accord on Super Intelligence: Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities" signed by Trump, Google's Pichai, Anthropic's Amodei, Meta's Zuckerberg, OpenAI's Brockman, XAI's Musk, Nvida's Huang.
In order to build a positive future for the American people and the world, we believe every company is responsible for developing its own technology safely and in a way that builds trust with customers and the public.

This starts with every company that is training and deploying frontier models having robust internal processes and controls to ensure that their technology behaves as intended and that any issues are promptly identified and resolved. Therefore, in addition to any other precautions, we believe each company should implement the following four layers of controls and audits:

(1) Implement robust internal controls to monitor the capabilities and alignment of its models during training and deployment around areas like cybersecurity, biosecurity, and chemical threats, and to ensure that its models do not hack or access technical systems in unintended ways.

(2) Empower an internal team to ensure all of the controls, monitoring, and detection are operating as intended, and that any issues are remediated.

(3) Partner with an independent external auditor or evaluator to carry out independent assessments of whether the controls, monitoring, and detection are operating as intended.

(4) Designate an independent committee of the board of directors to oversee and receive reports from the teams operating the controls and the internal and external auditors and evaluators, as well as to ensure any issues identified are remediated.

Together, these steps will give each company, its customers, and the public confidence that the technology is operating as intended.

The participating companies will meet regularly to establish standards and best practices to improve the safety of their systems.

Over time, it may make sense to codify these steps into laws or regulations. Regardless of whether this is required of companies, we believe that implementing these controls and audits is critical to ensuring a safe future for everyone, and each of our companies are ...Page 2 (signature page)

I assume there was more going on that isn't reflected in the hundreds of pages of text messages SPD and the mayor's office provided. But I'm also a good enough reporter that I don't weigh hundreds of pages of evidence against one cop's comment and think, "that settles it, all the evidence is wrong."

Chart shows a close positive relationship between Trump's 2024 vote and Google searches for testosterone boosters.
