was thinking about tape loops and wondered about some kind of literal canvas with a kind of celluloidy aesthetic where you could literally wind sounds around and then place playheads to pick them up. not sure. do the waveforms roll along the tape? maybe. looks pretty anyway

For Anni Albers, who wanted to create structure out of simple materials, the knot was the perfect object: a three-dimensional form made from two-dimensional thread. Rachel Cohen makes the case for the artist’s weaving as a form of conceptual art.

The knotty thinking of Anni Albers
Her use of textiles means that Albers is often seen as a decorative or craft artist. But what if we regard her work as abstract art with a genuinely wide appeal? By Rachel Cohen

Pixel: a biography An exact mathematical concept, pixels are the elementary particles of pictures, based on a subtle unpacking of infinity By Alvy Ray Smith, Edited byNigel Warburton aeon.co/essays/a-bio... #books #technology #ComputerScience
A pixel does not need to be rendered as a small square. This image shows alternative ways of reconstructing an image from a set of pixel values, using dots, lines, or smooth filtering.

Three panels showing image reconstruction/rendering at increasing resolution: (left) a coarse dotted/pixelated pattern of a "Z"-like shape, (middle) a finer striped/dithered version, (right) a smooth, high-resolution photo-like curve — illustrating progressive image reconstruction from low to high pixel density.

FUDEZUKA Toshihisa(筆塚稔尚 Japanese, b.1957) Shining Water 2 輝く水 2015 etching 21 × 15 cm
A vertical etching titled Shining Water 2 (2015) by contemporary Japanese printmaker Toshihisa Fudezuka offers a minimalist, abstract interpretation of water droplets disturbing a still surface. Measuring 21 by 15 centimeters, the print relies on a powerful contrast between complex geometric linework and vast negative space to capture a fleeting moment of natural movement with absolute precision and graphic elegance.

The composition is anchored on a light, warm cream-colored paper ground that is mostly left unadorned, simulating the expansive calmness of an undisturbed pool of water. The print features fine, dark indigo or purple-black lines etched into the plate, forming a series of concentric circles that represent ripples. These linear ripples are concentrated heavily in the upper-left and upper-center fields, where numerous rings intersect and overlap dynamically to create a dense, vibrating matrix.

Each distinct ripple cluster radiates outward from a tiny, bright vertical line of untouched paper at its epicenter, which mimics a sharp splash or a glint of reflected light. While the upper section evokes the rhythmic patter of rain, a single, isolated ripple cluster floats lower down in the central field. This solitary set of concentric rings stands apart from the dense grouping above, drawing the eye to its clean, geometric symmetry and emphasizing the quiet, meditative stillness that surrounds it. The entire work demonstrates Fudezuka's mastery of the intaglio process, turning a simple natural phenomenon into a sophisticated, highly stylized graphic pattern.

Not sure how you do it, but here's how I did them. I sampled the x-y space at regular intervals, and then iterated the functions a bunch of times for each pair (x,y). Then I plotted all generated points, coloring them by t. And for the video I varied the two parameters in a loop.
