By rights, each post in this thread should be nail in the coffin of Brad Bradford’s campaign. Great work, @nationalobserver.com.

Yeah, they clearly have contamination in the back of their minds, based on this - I'd be interested to see a follow-up.

I don't believe you can train a 'small' LLM on a constrained set of material and get a complex, problem-solving output: guarantee there is 'bleed' from much larger, commercial LLMs that were used to build it.

I'd like to see the proof that it was 'only' trained on pre-1930 text: I would think there is a built-in access to all training sources by the nature of LLMs.

When was the last time you saw a billionaire CEO face any punishment for being an accessory to murder? Hmm, let me think - never? That's a problem that "legislation" and "regulation" won't solve - I think there needs to be alternative, and more direct way to resolve this.

It just reinforces the sports/entertainment framing of news: "LOL nothing matters because all politicians are the same and policies have no effect on the real world" It's lazy and needs to change.

Carney is truly the Reagan of Canada. A calming, paternalistic figure in a period of apocalyptic uncertainty who galvanizes the economy with short-sighted right wing fiscal policies. And like Reagan, every disaster that Canada encounters in the future will be traceable to his administration.

One of Canada's advantages is that we know a lot about the US. We follow their news and politics, get their TV channels, travel there. But Americans know nothing about us. They don't understand our politics, history or values. They constantly misjudge us, but we understand them completely. #cdnpoli

One thing about speeding that many drivers refuse to accept: In urban and suburban environments, speeding doesn't even get you somewhere significantly faster. You are just getting to your next red light or highway choke point faster. You are endangering other people for almost no upside.

At a Harsh noise show... A sparse crowd gathers around two angry performing men in sunglasses. One is at a table with decks and another is kneeling on the floor screaming into a bunch of pedals. An old woman comes in with a plate of crudites. She asks one of the audience members "do you want any snacks?" The audience member says "yoooo, thanks ma." He continues, "also, thanks for letting us host Fistula God in the basement." His mom says pleasantly "I love your friends. They're so creative."

This has been an issue in tech for so long that the failure to correct it is really telling about the industry’s inherent lack of capacity for introspection. It selects for and rewards antisociality and then wonders why people don’t like and trust it.

Agree with @acoyne.bsky.social on Canada's options: "If there’s nothing we can do – if we lose no matter what – then we might as well do what we want. When nothing you can do will improve your fortunes, when the outcome is the same regardless of which option you choose, the stakes converge on zero."

The moderators of the AskCanada subreddit were so sick of posts that were like "American here, I come in peace, we're so ashamed of Trump, please adopt us, do you still like me Y/N" that they posted a new rule with what I thought was a very well-expressed sentiment
Moratoriums on specific topics
The moderation team recognizes that recent developments and ongoing events in the United States have generated significant concern and frustration for many Americans. However, we ask that users be mindful that r/AskCanada is a Canadian focused space, and that discussion here is intended to center Canadian perspectives, experiences, and questions.

Posts asking about:

US states joining Canada

Americans receiving refugee or asylum status in Canada

Canadians providing assistance, shelter, or advocacy for Americans

Apologies, self positioning, or “one of the good ones” statements directed at Canadians

are not permitted and will be removed.

Canada is not a backup plan for the United States, nor does it exist to mitigate or absorb the consequences of US political or social failures. Responsibility for addressing these issues rests with the United States and should be addressed through its own domestic processes and institutions.

Thank you to all users for your understanding and cooperation as we enforce these rules going forward.
