🍂✨ Today marks the #Autumn #Equinox, when day & night are approximately equal in length. For the #Romans, autumn meant harvest, including the #vindemia — the grape harvest. The season could be personified as Autumnus, while Ceres, Pomona & Bacchus were all linked with agriculture, fruit & wine.

Globally, 84% of the heatwave days people were exposed to in 2020-24 would not have occurred without climate change. The rate of deaths associated with heat exposure increased by 23% from the 1990s, reaching 546,000 deaths annually. Look where people are dying. www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...
A figure containing two world maps stacked vertically, labeled "A" (top) and "B" (bottom). The entire image is captioned at the bottom: "Figure 2: Average percentage of total deaths that were heat-related in 1990–99 (A) and 2012–21 (B)".

A single color-coded legend on the left side applies to both maps, showing a gradient of 17 steps. The scale ranges from very pale cream/pink representing the lowest percentage ("0.00 to <0.25") to increasingly darker shades of orange, red, and finally dark maroon/black representing the highest percentage ("3.75 to 4.00"). Antarctica is shaded grey on both maps.

Map A (Top Map - 1990–99): Shows the global distribution of heat-related deaths as a percentage of total deaths during the 1990s. Most of North America, Europe, Asia, South America, and Australia are shaded in light cream or pale orange colors, indicating low percentages (generally below 1.00%). The highest percentages are concentrated in North Africa, parts of the Middle East, and parts of Central/Southern Africa, which are shaded in medium-to-dark red, with a couple of countries showing very dark maroon patches.

Map B (Bottom Map - 2012–21): Shows the same metric for the 2012–21 period. Compared to Map A, there is a visible and significant intensification of color globally, particularly across the African continent and the Middle East. A large, continuous block of countries across North Africa, West Africa, and the Middle East is now shaded in the darkest maroon and black tones, indicating that heat-related deaths make up the highest bracket of total deaths (up to 4.00%). Central and Southern Africa also display much darker shades of red and maroon compared to Map A, while South America (notably Argentina) and parts of South Asia show a slight darkening into deeper orange-red tones.

This is a Refugee Tax. It was originally proposed by the Tories, and the only reason asylum seekers could be claimed to 'owe' any money is because they are banned from working. Another cruel Labour policy - that must be reversed on day one by Andy Burnham. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Labour could expand right to work for all those seeking asylum, so that they can support themselves. They could be investing in community support schemes to provide more suitable accommodation, which also helps develop infrastructure for everyone. Instead they opted for state mandated debt bondage.

Brighton, UK 13/06/2026 #Brighton #CarnivalAgainstFascism
Woman protester holding up a sign saying "FUCK YOUR FASCISM", facing a line of police officers holding perspex shields in riot uniform.

This took place in Brighton in the UK. It is probably in the middle of the day. There are other protesters behind the women. The scene is outside a pub.

The woman is part of a counter-protester, which is part of the Carnival Against Fascism. Members of a right-wing/anti-immigration group calling themselves the "Patriots" were in Brighton to march through the city. The counter-protesters outnumbered the Patriots, who did not manage to meet their objectives, as the counter-protesters were present in large numbers around the roads in the area.

As I wrote at the time of the Ballymena pogroms, I'm old enough to remember when the LVF attacked the home of disabled child because he was insuficciently Protestant. I'm old enough to remember this because it happened in 2024. www.irishexaminer.com/lifestyle-co...
Last July, the family of Jessy Clark, a nine-year-old boy with multiple serious disabilities, were allocated a newbuild bungalow in the Ballycraigy estate in Antrim town.

The home was purpose-built to provide for Jessy’s medical needs, allowing him the facility to bathe and use his wheelchair, freedoms he’d been denied in the hospital bed he’d been living in for years.

Shortly before the family were due to move in, the house was attacked with bricks and paint bombs.

Soon its boarded-up windows featured graffiti of crosshairs, and slogans declared that all such housing was for “locals only”.

The LVF-affiliated group responsible for this were implicated in a several other attacks in the area, driving eight African families out of their homes in the few weeks previous.

Deducing this took little by way of detective work, since the group posted laminated signs around the area declaring “No Undesirables… No Multiculturalism” and warnings to “keyboard warriors” that their home might be next.
