Right to repair is an important subject to me. I believe that simple and serviceable designs are a valuable ebike ownership trait. Motors like the BBSHD require few specialized tools and most you probably already have in your tool box. Transportation independence starts on the work bench.

My across-the-street neighbor was helping someone clean out their garage and found this bike. It had seen some adventures in its time but had then been sitting for a decade or more. He gave it to us (along with its similar vintage mountain bike cousin) and we had Richard (formerly of Green Fleet) give it some love.

New bar tape, new tires, new rim tape, cleaned & lubricated drivetrain, new cables & housing, new pedals, cleaned frame, checked hubs & bearings. Downtube shifters, Deore derailleurs, Nitto handlebar stem, aluminum frame & fork. Three (!!) bottle cage mounts.

Asking $500. Proceeds from this sale will benefit Bike Fun, a non-profit bicycle education service in Middle Tennessee.

"I'll be over on Thursday to drop off the bike!" said the man on the phone, after I tried to explain we don't have much call for road bikes. When he showed up with this bike, it was FILTHY. I mean, looks-like-a-black-chain FILTHY. Jockey wheels with CRUST on them. To be fair, I could have said no. But, I'm always up for a cleaning challenge & I'd say that 97% of this bike is eat-off-it clean (that other 3% we didn't have tools to remove).

Cleaning did reveal cosmetic dings but mechanically, it's sound as a pound. No doubt someone will love this bike with its super high end componentry & ZIPtastic feel.

Dura-Ace & Ultegra components, direct mount rim brakes, power meter, carbon frame & fork. NO CHARGING CABLE INCLUDED unfortunately - you'll have to source your own.

E-bikes give people affordable, clean transportation. If kids are getting hit by pickup trucks, the answer isn’t to treat e-bikes like the problem; it’s protected bike lanes, safer crossings, lower traffic speeds, and infrastructure that keeps everyone separated from multi-ton vehicles.

Update on the #LEGO Road Bike: Building it took up most of the morning and was really fun. It's nice to see how LEGO used very specific existing parts for this bike, like dragon horns from the Ninjago sets for the handlebars and minifigure hockey sticks to form the rails on the saddle.
