WSJ has now appended this lengthy editor's note to its original report. It notably contains zero contrition for the initial decision to spread such incendiary misinformation. www.wsj.com/livecoverage...
Editor's Note: An earlier version of this article detailed how an internal law enforcement bulletin said that ammunition recovered following the Charlie Kirk shooting was engraved with expressions of “transgender and anti-fascist ideology." Justice Department officials later urged caution about the bulletin by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, saying it may not accurately reflect the messages on the ammunition, and the article was updated Thursday to reflect that. This editor's note was appended on Friday, Sept. 12, after Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said the engravings included one that said “Hey fascist!” along with other messages and symbols. He gave no indication that the ammunition included any transgender references.

I see that Marty Makary is in the news. I just wrote about his PragerU interview. If you want to see how wildly ignorant he seems to be, have a look. www.mcgill.ca/oss/article/...
His interview on PragerU (view count: 3.4 million) is filled with preposterous falsehoods meant to reveal him to be a singular freethinker who asks questions no one has dared to ask before. On the topic of diabetes—and keep in mind that he is a doctor who specializes in a surgical intervention for type 1 diabetes—he boldly states that diabetics are simply given insulin and that no one tells them to try lowering their sugar levels by watching what they eat. Has he been living under a rock for most of his life? Earlier, he rhetorically asked how to even teach ethics to doctors in training. The interviewer turned the question back at him: “Are they even taught these things?” His incredible answer? “I’m not aware of it.” The School of Medicine at his own university, Johns Hopkins, has a first-year course for its medical students literally called “Foundations of Public Health: Epidemiology, Ethics & Health Care.” To claim that medical students are not taught ethics is either a gonzo lie or a sign of a disqualifying lack of knowledge.

For those who need a refresher on Fuentes, Kirk, and the Groyper wars, here are some excerpts from our book, Meme Wars:
With allies like former Tea Party star Michelle Malkin, too edgy for conservatives but too pragmatic and polished for wignat street fighting, Fuentes set out to build a new right-wing coalition heading into the election year of 2020. But this was not going to be a big tent; who was excluded was just as important as who was included. The first target of what would become the Groyper wars was Charlie Kirk, as the most visible, and therefore most reachable face of the young conservative
Kirk was about to embark on a national campus tour titled "Culture Wars," where he was supposed to build a broad student coalition in support of Trump. A veteran of the college circuit, Kirk was poised to lead the young Republican wing of the party. He and his TPUSA had taken heat for their proximity to the alt-right at political and campus events in 2017 and 2018, and Kirk publicly denounced white supremacy after Unite the Right.
For Fuentes, Kirk and TPUSA embodied everything that was wrong with conservatives who upheld the liberal consensus by promoting Israel, gay rights, and softer immigration policies. Kirk had been in Fuentes's sights during the years as he soured on campus conservatives. Getting

to the top tier of Trumpworld was nearly impossible for someone as marginal as Fuentes, but opportunity struck in October 2019, when Kirk took TPUSA's Culture War college tour on the road. Kirk brought Trumpworld to campuses across the nation with special guests like Senator Rand Paul, Donald Trump Jr., Kimberly Guilfoyle, Lara Trump, and congressman Dan Crenshaw. Like when Richard Spencer, Shapiro, or Yiannopoulos would book campus tours, Kirk's events too often attracted protest from left-wing student groups. Beginning on October 7 at the University of Nevada, Kirk set a tone where debate was encouraged, even allowing those who disagreed with him to move to the front of the line during Q&A.

from Corey Robin on FB:
screenshot of the post:

"I thought my capacity for shock had been completely lost. But I have to admit, reading this message, which went out this morning to all public employees of the State of Virginia, stunned me:
"Good morning, State Colleagues: Many of you saw the Proclamation issued by the Governor last night asking Virginians to pause at noon today to reflect and pray for Charlie Kirk’s family, to reject all forms of violence, and for our Commonwealth and Nation to stand together. (You may find the Official Proclamation here.) Just as our Nation joined together after September 11th, so too must we make a similar and lasting commitment to defeat the evils that harm our democracy."
Over the years, I've read countless articles and books about the Redemption period after Reconstruction, how previously reviled and odious figures—slave masters, Confederate politicians, southern generals—were canonized by, first, the white South and ultimately the white power elite of the nation as a whole.
I suddenly have such a visceral sense of what it must have felt like to be a formerly enslaved person, an abolitionist, a Union soldier, the families of Union soldiers who lost their sons or husbands or brothers, a radical founder of the Republican Party, to see this happening. It's stupefying, shocking, as I said, to see a version of it now, in real time, right before my eyes. It's like I'm seeing Birth of a Nation getting made right in front of me.
After 9/11, Susan Sontag pleaded to a nation that had completely lost its mind, its sense of reality and proportion, any and every sense of history at all, "let's not be stupid together." I know it's a lot to ask of this country, but, please, let's not be stupid together."
