Street trees do so much more than provide green space. They visually narrow the road, calm traffic, and turn an uneasy asphalt runway into a welcoming, human-scaled street. It's a small investment that will pay huge dividends for a city that cares about its residents and future.

This is incredible. UK emissions fell 2.4% in 2025 as coal fell to a 400-year low. Incredibly, we used less coal last year than than in 1600, when Queen Elizabeth I was on the throne and Shakespeare was writing Hamlet www.carbonbrief.org/analysis-uk-...

Obstructive Parking forces Bus Rerouting…
Buses are being re-routed from two residential streets in St.Marychurch. The press have reported it like this: But we see it a different way... The electric buses may be slightly bigger (we haven't been able to get a straight answer on that). What has changed is not the street; however, this change has been used as an opportunity to move the buses away from where people live.

So sad to have to restart this blog already. In 2025 6 people were killed on the roads of Torbay, all of them vulnerable road users (travelling on foot, by cycle or motorcycle). We believe that a safe systems approach could eliminate road deaths and reduce injuries.

How to enjoy the Bay of Lights this year!
“Pay for an hour, stay for the day.” Torbay Council originally pitched this as something that would help everyone “enjoy all that Torquay, Paignton and Brixham town centres have to offer.”I am really pleased to see that wording quietly updated, because the truth is simple: not everyone has access to a car, and not everyone wants to drive into the town centre.

New study from Melbourne finds reducing residential speed limits from 50km/h to 30 km/h on local roads would protect cyclists from danger, make riding less stressful and get more people cycling while not causing traffic delays for cars.

One expert says a cyclist hit by a car travelling 50km/h has about a one-in-ten chance of surviving, while at 30km/h it was a nine-in-ten chance

Union Square Redevelopment
We have spoke in objection of this redevelopment on the basis that it was originally billed as a 'car-free' development but even with anticipated huge modal shifts, 40% of journeys will still be undertaken by private vehicle. Torbay Council Officer's did not recommend any improvements to off-site sustainable transport infrastructure and with only a tiny sum of £5,000 as a contribution to this.

Brixham Regeneration
We were extremely concerned to see the 'options' offered to Brixham Town Council in early September 2025. A choice of 3 different multi-storey car parks were offered, all significantly increasing the number of car parking spaces in the Central Car Park Brixham Town Council have since reported their preference is to 'Maximise parking for residents and visitors, with flexibility for long and short-stay users and residential permits'.

Everyone needs access to trees and green space. Not just those who live in the countryside, or who have a car and can drive there. Not just those who can afford to live on leafy avenues with big gardens. Street trees and parks in urban areas are absolutely essential - and will become even more so.
