17 or so, summer job at a fiberglass molding plant. In summer job terms, it paid extremely well. A few days of fiberglass dust and I learned a very important life lesson that it is very worth it to take pay cut (to some other light-warehouse, non-fiberglass-dust gig) for quality of life.

I was fired without actually having the job. It was a job watering and maintaining plants in office buildings. I was told I needed to do a trial day to see how I performed. Was told the next day I wasn't selected. I wasn't paid for the 8 hours I worked. How do you fail watering frikkin plants?

High school: hired at KFC – the manager told me I could have all the food I wanted at close. Worked 2 shifts, there was never any food left over. Slipped & fell on my tailbone as the kitchen floor was coated in grease. Couldn't get out of bed the third day, called in but no answer, got fired.

First year of college I worked at my campus call center contacting donors. We'd get bonuses for donations of $250+. After hours of hangups, one elderly woman pledged $500. My bonus was $50, more than my hourly pay for the whole night. I took the $ and never went back.

Hired to set up a living history museum in NC. The owner's brother-in-law starting hitting on a 16 y.o. docent. She said, "He's asking me to go to dark places with him like the utility closet." 😱 I called the girl's mom, banned the dude from the premises. I got fired the next day.😂

Portland, Oregon for the summer break in college in 1979. Needed cash to pay rent in the summer apt. Signed up with temp work. Sent to small machine shop. Eight hours of jamming rods into a machine that melted the ends, and dropping them into a box. Swollen hands. Made rent. One day what was it :)

If you want to reduce rape on your campus, expel the rapists. If you want to reduce sexual harassment in your company, fire the harassers. If you want to reduce rape in your community, prosecute the perpetrators. This isn’t actually complicated; it’s just politically convenient to pretend it is.

That’s why well-intentioned calls for, say, more consent education often strike me as misguided. Rape is not an accident or a misunderstanding; the rapist knows full well that he rapes. The issue is that rape provides benefits for the rapist and for his community that they don’t want to give up.

We actually do know how to reduce rape. We do it the same way we disincentivize other behaviors: we punish it severely and consistently. The issue is not that we don’t know the solution, but that we lack the will to carry it out.

so restricting Ukraine's Starlink was Musk's idea, but after Moscow took advantage he became "alarmed about the possibility of adverse consumer reaction in Europe" to the "night of carnage" and denied responsibility I mean, it sounds like typical Elon

So, no, Euronews, Tesla will absolutely not be profiting off this vehicle. To the extent it ever makes it to market at all (doubt level could not possibly be higher), it'll be solely because Elon Musk is a trillionaire and he thinks it'll be funny to waste tens of billions of dollars on this garbage

The first is the "suction" system that holds the car upside down. This is done through a system of strong fans that take in air from under the car and exhaust it elsewhere. This was first introduced in the 1970 Chaparral 2J racing car, which was banned after one season and has been banned ever since

Since the car is not physically attached to the ground in any way - remember, it's floating on an electromagnetic field, and there's no physical connection holding the weight of the car's body up - it's the smoothest conceivable ride. It also completely eliminates transient weight shifting, which...

Starting around 1980, Bose (the speaker company) started thinking about making an automobile suspension using the same type of electromagnetic systems that drive audio speakers. You would have a permanent magnet attached to the wheels, floating inside an electromagnetic field attached to the unibody

in order for the Roadster's "suck system" to work, increasing downforce as demonstrated by driving upside-down, the car has to drop little side skirts to seal the underbody... these are casually described as "replaceable, sacrificial items made from rubber with nylon bristles" lol; lmao
