My Red card discourse: VAR protocol: intensity to be judged at normal speed not slow mo. Slow motion decided it. Bad Article 27 allows a red suspension. FIFA invoked Article 27 under U.S. pressure. Not great for sporting integrity, but they didn’t invent a rule. It’s fine to admit all of that.

Wow, this game’s really flying now. Sure hope it keeps up this energy for the rest of the half. Can’t imagine there’d be any huge, awkward stoppage they could rob it of its momentum.

MARTA is the largest transit system in the U.S. to receive no dedicated operations funding (for salaries & more) from its state. Without more operations money, MARTA can't truly expand service. It can only shift resources around. When will leaders finally address this?

Preface. MARTA is a mess. And any violence on MARTA should be investigated thoroughly and holistically. That said. This federal investigation is a political witch-hunt created solely to bolster untrue, cynical GOP tough-on-crime election messaging that the City of Atlanta is a criminal hellhole.

They won’t convince any high quality transit leader to come in and turn the agency around. The only industry options will be another midsize system CEO (who will get eaten alive), a lesser C-level at a major agency that looks at it as a 2-year gig, or a consulting executive. Bad choices.

*takes a deep breath* *jumps into the MARTA discourse* The agency’s next CEO needs to be from outside the transit world, and someone focused on organizational transformation. You can’t fix any of the service/delivery issues without first fixing the culture and workforce.

It's mildly infuriating that MARTA uses more than half of the screens in the station to scroll pointless messages - in this case, about escalator safety. The number one thing we want to see on this screen is upcoming trains. #MARTA #transit
A digital screen in a marta station reading:

Airport
Arriving
"....single file; one person, per step. Avoid traveling on escalators with a bicycle..."

They’re intentionally not disclosing information to anyone but those in closed door meetings, despite constituents & City Council demanding otherwise. Atlanta mayor is fully aware. BeltLine is fully aware. So is MARTA. Mayor is muzzling MARTA ICEO while Mayor has & owns BeltLine’s “support”.

Sigh, watching the AJC slowly disintegrate bit by bit (layoffs todays and a few weeks ago) is really disheartening. It’s been very far from a perfect for a while; but the impact/benefit a well resourced local news org provides isn’t something we can replace with fragmented/issue based outlets.

Help me out guys I didn't pay attention in social studies: If the mayor wants to invest money in things like affordable housing then couldn't he propose a budget with funding for those things and the city council could vote to approve that budget? Why do we need a TAD? atl.direct/neighborhood...
The Neighborhood Reinvestment Initiative Commission, also known as NRIC, was established by the Atlanta City Council to guide and provide oversight for the City’s Neighborhood Reinvestment Initiative. The initiative is a long-term effort led by Mayor Andre Dickens, the City of Atlanta, and community partners to strengthen historically underserved neighborhoods across the city.

The goal is to make Atlanta the best city in the nation to raise a child by investing in housing, infrastructure, transit, and community amenities in a way that is thoughtful, responsible, and equitable.

Fulton County would have a lot more money for treating homelessness if they stopped under-valuing big commercial properties, which lowers their taxes. If a government's budget is a statement about our values, so is the amount of money that we let slip away for the benefit of the powerful.
