When Good Georgians Get Together, Great Things Happen
How I’d Fix Atlanta was a free monthly essay series for four years. It’s been a couple of print zines and a performance on a stage a few times. Quite often, it’s stickers. HIFA is large, it contains multitudes. Every September, we do a big fundraiser to abolish medical debt. From 2023-2025, we raised more than […]

So we actually have this, and it's called MARTA Reach. I ride MARTA Reach semi-often and it's a good service, but I've also used it enough to know it doesn't scale well. With regular fixed route service if 25 people all decide to ride at the same time that's fine. With shuttle service it buckles

The global cost of automobility Automobility is one of the most powerful forces shaping modern societies, economies, and environments While motorists often underestimate the true private costs of car ownership, the social costs are diffuse and largely hidden, distributed across entire populations.

Further to this: "Should we focus at all on e-bikes? Sure. On the topic of traffic safety, I propose 0.2% of our attention focus on e-bikes and 99.8% of our attention focus on cars. That aligns nicely with the real world situation we’re currently faced with" www.urbanismspeakeasy.com/p/i-care-abo...

I care about e-bike safety 0.2% of the time
Click-bait media outlets would have you think we should drop everything and do something about the scary threat of battery-powered bicycles (and yes, battery-powered motorcycles).

There's also lots of evidence that people wouldn't switch to this public transport - even if the billions were magically produced to build it - unless we *first* make driving less convenient. Why would someone who knows how to drive to the shops suddenly stop doing this in the absence of disruption?

A lot of the bandwagon people are going to have a hard time accepting that England is now the underdog in this tournament. Lowest ranked out of the 4 remaining teams. Least number of world cup trophies and trophies overall (only 1) In the 20th century they only reached the semi-finals twice

Can we stop calling these people moderates? This is like the definition of conservatism. If we were a sane country these people would form the conservative party and progressives would have their own party. Or better yet, we wouldn't have a two party system at all

“How much is a magical world worth?” A beautiful thread about Cabo Verde, the Peace Corps, and the World Cup:
Jill Tucker
@jilltucker
X.com
If you ever doubt how magical this world is, one day you will decide to go to a World Cup watch party in Oakland that you found online to root for a country where you spent two years trying to coax English out of the mouths of Cape Verdean teenagers. 1/7

And at the watch party you will ask the organizer if he's from Cape Verde. He will say yes, from Praia. And you'll say oh! I lived there for two years. I was a teacher. And he will ask, "What's your name?" You will tell him and he will say,
"You were my teacher."
CABO VERDE
11:43 AM • 6/25/26 • 92K ViewsJill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h
And across 30+ years and 6,000 miles you will hug a now man who tried to find you and remembered the songs you taught him and his classmates and he will apologize for how badly behaved they all were. And you will laugh and try not to cry and gape in wonder at at this crazy world.

Jill Tucker
@jilltucker

You will remember how much you love the World Cup. And what the Peace Corps meant to you. What those students, 40 to a class with no glass on the windows, meant to you.
11:43 AM • 6/25/26 • 62K ViewsJill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h
Ivan, the grown man with a touch of grey in his beard, will tell you later he has struggled to describe what it meant to him to meet again - that he shared our photo with classmates.
And when he returns from watching the Cabo Verde game, we will try to find the words together.

Jill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h And then you read that the US
House of Representatives will vote a day before that game on an amendment to eliminate the Peace Corps, which costs 1/6 the price of the Tomahawk missiles the US used in the war on Iran.
