Surely it is safer for society if teenagers go through intervention, deradicalization & therapy at a young age rather than encouraging further radicalization & then sending them to prison, which will only increase radicalization by cutting them off from proper support and a healthy environment etc.

If the government find out from investigations of online hate groups that a 16 year old is radicalizing, why continue to communicate with, encourage & offer him opportunities to hurt people so that they can then arrest & jail him, instead of…intervening and trying to help deradicalize him?

Whoa. @haleaziz.bsky.social has the scoop on a truly insane plan to use some military training ships for deportations, with people presumably shackled or locked in cells for days at a time as they transit to Central and South America. Each journey would be staggeringly expensive — and dangerous.

man, reading about the Flying Tigers (US pilots flying for China during WW2) makes me feel like sobbing 😭
It was told by a Flying Tiger pilot who was shot down over enemy territory in China. Fortunately, he was picked up by villagers and hidden in a couple's house.

"The first thing they did was to take his boots away. He thought: 'They're going to take everything I have of value and then turn me over to the Japanese,'" Jobe told the audience.

When the Japanese came into this house, they mercilessly beat the couple, and then another Japanese soldier came and mumbled something, and suddenly all of them left the home and the town.

Touching story

The pilot later discovered that the couple had given his boots to a young man who left a trail out of the town; the Japanese believed the trail was left by the Flying Tiger, so they followed it.

The pilot waited at the home till a missionary arrived to help escort him back to his base. Before leaving, he asked the missionary to ask the couple why they risked their lives to save his. "Their answer was simplicity itself: 'When the Japanese come, we see fear in the eyes of the Chinese; when the Flying Tigers come, we see fear in the eyes of the Japanese,'" said Jobe.

I think there is a particular flavor of sexism that shows up in a lot of anime. To whit, does a female character -Have only one relationship to a single male figure? -Or have no relationships to men at all? -Or have an abstract relationship to all men? (this is the idol thing)

A lot of anime is culturally conservative, on a wide enough political spectrum. At the very least its hard to find "leftist" or feminist anime. You can explain this with some basic material analysis of the Japanese entertainment industry. A lot of the same stuff is true of American entertainment.
