the recent jwst images have been insane

$A young star cluster filled with many stars that display Webb’s unique eight-pronged diffraction pattern. At its center is a yellow star which sports the largest diffraction pattern. To the left of the star, there is a region filled with yellow dust and gas that extends from the star to the left border of the image. This yellow region extends from the bottom, covering about two-thirds of the image. The yellow region has several blue stars of different sizes embedded within. The top third, which lies outside of the yellow region, holds a few bright protostars, within dense gray gas. Those stars illuminate the gas, making it appear blue. A few red outflows from other protostars are visible above this grayish-blue region. To the right of the central star, there is a clumpy, flame-like plume of red dust and gas with protostars that emit a soft white light within. The plume is surrounded by more dense gray gas and dust. Image credit: NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI, Processing: Alyssa Pagan.$

A massive galaxy cluster, made of many golden elliptical galaxies with the largest, brightest one in the center. Heavily distorted orange galaxies appear all around the cluster, the largest concentrated in a large arc around the cluster's center; these are images of very distant galaxies, created by gravitational lensing. A few galaxies are large and bluish-white in color; bright, nearby stars are the same color.

A star-forming region. The left two thirds of the image is blanketed in thick clouds of green and yellow gas and dust that form swirling patterns. Some of the gas is spread into thin, thready wisps. The right third of the image is the black background speckled with stars and multi-colored dots that represent distant galaxies. Bright stars are scattered throughout the clouds, with the densest cluster situated in the center of the scene. Each is crowned with six long spikes and two shorter spikes created by the optics of the telescope’s mirrors.

A region of space filled with bright stars and clouds of gas. In the center, the densest clouds form the shape of a chest with its lid open. The chest appears to glow from within. At its base it breaks apart into long pillars of thick gas. Many of the gas clouds in the background are dark orange globules, while others form large, pale hazes. A few brightly shining stars lie in the foreground, the biggest and brightest in front of the chest’s lid.

I'd love to credit whoever wrote this. No idea. But I'm 100% with its message. When I think of how the '80s ethos, "Greed is Good" has metastasized, it surprises and depresses me. Imagine having so many millions, hundred of millions, even billions & caring about nothing except your own vanity.

He always says what he is actually thinking. He’s the drunk at the end of the bar pontificating. This really is what his supporters like about him—he says what he thinks 🤯 And then they’re surprised when he does something that is not in their interests 🤦🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️

I believe that we will come to utter the phrase ‘failure of imagination ‘ when this is over. Most Americans think it will be handled at the ballot. No. They have been plotting this restructuring, realignment since the Civil War. Actually this is Civil War part 2. No Fort Sumter. Not a shot fired.

Could he apologized? Decried his reprehensible behavior? Say that citizens expect better from their leaders and promise to do so? I guess having someone excuse your behavior with ridiculous suppositions is a better political move. #bringbackthegrownups

Grey Whiskers Butte (Dághaa' libáí) is named for a respected Navajo medicine man who helped establish Monument Valley Tribal Park in 1958. The name means ‘gray whiskers’ and the butte is considered a symbolic doorway to the sacred valley. #arizona #monumentvalley #landscape #sunrise #photography

A BEAUTIFUL AND SPOOKY NEW IMAGE OF THE RED SPIDER NEBULA FROM JWST!! 🌌🕷️

A large planetary nebula. The nebula’s central star is hidden by a blotchy pinkish cloud of dust. A strong red light radiates from this area, illuminating the nearby dust. Two large loops extend diagonally away from the centre, formed of thin ridges of molecular gas, here coloured blue. They stretch out to the corners of the view. A huge number of bright, whitish stars cover the background, also easily visible through the thin dust layers.

The American Dream was great propaganda because, despite following the rules, doing things ‘the right way’, we’re being erased, denigrated. Begrudged because we did what their racism said we couldn’t do.

I think it was DuBois who said the most patriotic American was the middle class ‘Negro’. I know from my own family: men who fought in wars for the freedom they wouldn’t enjoy when they came home. Stressed education, working hard and staying out of trouble. Bought a house, car, had wife, kids.
